Its a great show but is it realistic?

some say no, some say yes over the internet.

If so, copywriting must be a really nice gig.

    Yes. It is. (Realistic.)

I smoke 3 packs a day, drink every time I have a conversation and cheat on my wife all the time.

    All the while...

I'm thinking about my client's tagline and conceptualizing their marketing. Great way to make a living.

    I kid, I kid.

But I am known for staring out the window for a hot minute, then running to computer and writing copy as fast as my fingers can keep up.

    The show is surrealistic.

Yes, people drank in their offices.
    Yes, everyone smoked.
Yes, slapping your secretary on the butt was not considered taboo.

But the show focuses on drama, and very little on business. After all, it isn't an Advertising show, but a drama...where the characters are in an advertising agency.

Did every guy cheat on their wives then? No more than now.
I watch the show, because I study advertising, and Don Draper is a good character. But their lives are hollow, and the characters are shallow versions of real people.

If it was real life, I wouldn't enjoy being around any of them. Maybe Peggy.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I think some of the advertising principles hold true, like when Don says that advertising is about Happiness (in regards to Lucky Strikes), or that beautiful scene with the carousel. Honestly though, I stopped watching the show, simply because I found it boring. *shrugs*

Some of Don's speeches in the first season are fantastic. I love how he treats clients... and helps them GET the message and WHY it'll work... in such off-the-wall ways.

But I'm shocked!!! Boring?!?! Really?!?! The character development is frickin awesome. And while it's definitely slow at times, watching Don's decent into the land of non-redemption is fascinating.

Maybe I didn't get that far... I should revisit it.

Edit: When it comes to AMC though... WALKING DEAD all the way. New episode in 7 days... OMG I can't wait 4 Season 4.

I just did a blog on my Clickbank site about The Bar Scene from The Walking Dead. Love that show. I hear they're making a spin off. I'd love to write the marketing for that show.
