Writing Copy For My New Web Site (Fitness)

Hey Guys,

I'm a weight loss coach and body transformation expert. Here is my personal training site Ottawa Personal Trainer | Ottawa Weight Loss | Ottawa Fat Loss | Fat Loss Solutions Inc.

I'm not expanding my services in order to impact more lives and help more people along the way. I will be running 'boot camps' but since I hate boot camps i'm calling mine a 'fit camp'. I'm in the process of writing copy for it. I'm stuck right now, I guess I don't have a template that I'm following, just writing as I go. I'm trying to hit on the pain trigger poitns, as well as connect with the reader on a personal/emotional level by sharing with them my personal story. I'm also using a bit of a story behind why i'm offering these fit camps now (trying to make it all about them, which is true). It was either hire a trainer to take on more one on one clients or I can continue coching people myself (which I love) but in a different format.

Can someone please help guide me, let me know if what I have right now is total crap or is decent for a first draft! Keep in mind I'm half way through. I want to finish the first draft by tonight. Here is what I have so far (half way there). Need some input/motivation to help me wrap it up don't be too mean now...

Bad News!
Up until now my coaching services where only available in a privet one-on-one coaching setting. Since I only take on 8-10 private coaching clients a year on 12-month agreements I’m always booked solid.

    Have you thought about leading with the offer of the free jeans? Something like "Let me strip 20 pounds of fat from your body... and then buy you a free pair of skinny jeans to show off your sexy new figure"

    Just an idea of something that might grab their attention and get them to read through the letter.

    I think this is fine as a draft but (1) I think your opening hook is weak (the biggest flaw) and (2) you are approaching the whole matter the wrong way.

    I'll start with (1):

    Hi, I’m Ruslan
    I want you to know that I get exactly what you’re going through!


    Ok, here, right away, I hear sales talking and want to leave. Just because you are Ruslan doesn't mean you know anything about me or how I feel, don't assume. Try this instead:

    Hi, I’m Ruslan. I used to weigh 296 pounds.
    If I'm right about what you might be going right, know that I can tell you how I lost 203 pounds, and prove to you that you can do it too. Here is my story.


    Now you are credible because you are speaking from experience, you are justified in having an idea about your prospects' feelings. Never state strong assumptions about what who you are talking to feels: it patronizes and annoys them.

    Now (2). It can be provisionally helpful to show your copy to marketing experts, but many of them are often wrong. This is not how you find out the truth. Instead, you should start with this draft and progressively optimize the copy. It's a science. How do you do it? Here's how.

    Identify the most important parts of your text. You wrote this pretty well so you already know what the necessary parts are.

    Using Google Analytics Experiments (former Google Website Optimizer). Either create a different version of the page where the components appear in a different order, or pick an important part, like the hook, and set some metric to test it by (for testing the hook / lead, "time on site" may give you a statistically solid idea faster than counting conversions, for example). TO test your sales pitch, of course, you need to measure conversions.

    So, don't trust opinions, measure the impact instead.

    Interestingly, you can test mini versions of your sales letter in AdWords, by making ad copy encapsulating the essential parts, and perfect them till you get the highest CTR on some relevant keyword like "cannot lose weight." For example, you can try this

    Hi, I am Ruslan
    I know how you feel.
    Come to boot camp, I'll help.


    -- and test it against this:

    I weighed 296 lbs.
    Lost 203. You can too.
    Come to my boot camp.


    Which do you think will win?

      I didn't even think of how I may be coming off arrogant rather than compassionate wish such line as 'i get what you're going through. I'll switch that around.

        Ne za chto, Ruslan, you are welcome. I want to add that the real trick is to write not one landing page but several, each for its audience. Your keywords and ad copy allow you to segment the audience. Understand the stages of the relevant buying cylce(s) and, in the long run, write and test landing pages for each segment (e.g. gender, age group, "weight category" and so on). Remember: averages lie and you have to segment things up.

        And here is pure free gold for you. Copy and paste this into the AdWords keyword planner:
        weigh 300 pounds, i weigh 300 pounds, i weigh 300 lbs, i weigh 310 pounds, i weigh 400 lbs, i weigh 350 pounds,*i weigh 400 pounds, i weigh 450 pounds, i weigh 250 pounds.

        There searches have search volumes, and they are not competitive, in your hugely competitive market. Am I feeling generous today or what?

            Oh, AdWords is the Google service that you use to run ads on Google. You pay per every click your ad receives. It is the best way to get relevant traffic to your site quickly and if your product or service sells, there is practically always a way to optimize it so its profitable. It's also a fantastic way to get the relevance of your keywords fast.

            The Keyword Planner is in AdWords, under the Tools and Analysis tab.

            But since you mention SEO and tagging, here is more free gold for you!
            The search term "I weigh 300 pounds" has 100+ monthly searches on Google in the US. It is not at all competitive. (I won't get into how I test it.) Write an excellent, a blog post titled "I weigh 300 pounds" (make sure the <title> tag of the page is the same. (On most good blogs this will be automatic). You will quickly rank near the top for this search. And your prime target audience will find you!

    Build a small site on that domain (not just a one page sales pitch, Google does not rank those). Provide real free info there on multiple genuine, useful, inspiring, content pages. can own that search forever, guaranteed. Your most targeted audience.

    When they type in this search, they are in a state of despair.

    Forget boasting. They already want what you have. Remember the rule: don't boast, don't strive to seduce them. They already want it. Just remove friction and obstacles to fulfillment as quickly as possible.

    Make a sign-up center on the site, start collecting opt-in email addresses for your weight loss newsletter.

    The possibilities are endless.

    Eventually make enough profits to hire a marketing guru to help take it to the next level.
