Drayon Bird - 51 Helpful Marketing Ideas

Being relatively new to copyrighting (sic), I had not heard of Drayton Bird until I heard the interview with him on Fast Effective Copy. So I signed up for his email list.

The autoresponder series gives 51 Helpful Marketing Ideas delivered over a month or two. Today, he sent out an email with a link to his compiled tips in an ebook.

I found his tips thought provoking, so I bought it and thought others here might be interested. And I do like his style of writing.

Drayton Bird

One thing I found very interesting in the emails is his PS included with each email:

"P.S. Don't forget - if you have a friend or colleague who you think would like to hear from me, please forward me their address. They'll get a polite invitation - which they can decline - and I never share my email lists."

Marvin

P.S. - I find Draytons style very much like that described by Max5ty in the thread:

    Thanks for sharing that Marvin.

Drayton Bird is definitely one of the best copywriters on the planet.

On his main website, Home | Drayton Bird AssociatesDrayton Bird Associates | Results – nothing less, he also gives away a lot of free marketing info that's well worth reading.

Didn't catch the interview with him on Fast Effective Copy.

Actually, the last interview they had with Scott Haines was the first one I listened to.

    Wish I had started sooner.

Carlton, Kennedy, Bond Halbert and some of the other top copywriters were on the call...not to mention Brian McLeod and David Garfinkel who hosted it.

I'm not as good as any of those, but I'm smart enough to know if you hang out where the good ones hang out, something good is bound to rub off.

    Thanks again.

That sure describes my philosophy as well! And personally, I've found the Copywriting Forum to be one of the best, if not the best, places to regularly visit.

I generally set a new standard for being a slow learner, but I am starting to see how I've incorporated many of the comments made here into my writing.

One thing I've learned over the years is that people with strong opinions on a given subject usually have a reason. So many thanks to the copywriters here who take the time to educate the rest of us!

Great share. Small business owners can easily get too involved in the day-to-day operations of their retail stores to spend any time brainstorming marketing ideas or promotional events. Some retailers worry that marketing is too expensive, others may find it too time consuming.
    Have a nice day.

Could you please tell me what your remark has to do with the post?

  • Just to confirm, that here in the UK, Drayton is a living legend.

And at the tender age of 78, he's still going strong.

One of the last original Mad Men.

Drayton is the same, whether writing to his list, interviews he does,
or the one to one emails we shared.

You get drawn in by his warmth and
      natural curiosity he has.

      A real gentleman.

I mentioned to him that this was the same trait
I noticed when corresponding with Gary Bencivenga.

He was chuffed as he admires Gary greatly.

You feel a better person for knowing these greats.

      Best,
      Ewen

I always find Drayton's copy very trustworthy because he has a no BS attitude (one I aspire to replicate) when it comes to marketing and advertising, which you'll soon discover if you read his blog. I always recommend his books to people getting started ('Sales Letters that Sell' and 'Commonsense Direct & Digital Marketing') because the insights are timeless. Ogilvy quote: “Drayton Bird knows more about Direct Marketing than anyone in the world. His book about it is pure gold."

I love that. Simple and eye catching. I will be having a look at this e-book in the near future.
