Auto Responder Series Writer - How To Find, What to expect?

Hey Guys,

I've been trying to find a good copywriter to do a series of auto-responder emails, tried the usual odesk/elance and almost every application that came back was just another overseas writer looking to do articles... I had one good candidate come back from Calgary who seems to be legit and I like his style so I'm in talks with him but I'd like to interview at least a few more before making a decision.

Are there some standard rates for this type of writing?

Our project is in the learn guitar niche, we have the squeeze page/product done and capturing leads isn't a problem, but our auto-responder series sucks (I wrote it).

We're thinking 20 or so follow-ups... can we expect $1000, $5000, $10,000? Obviously I know the better the rep of the writer the more money but is there a reasonable ball park figure I can expect to negotiate with?

Different copywriters have different styles (and fees.)

Some copywriters just have you fill out a form.

And write your copy - based on your responses.

Others, like me, interview and collaborate on a more in-depth level. (Which is obviously much more time consuming.)

    You're in an interesting niche.

I'm actually relearning how to play the guitar and there's a TON of really awesome free stuff out there.

    Just like your main copy...

Your AR would need to focus on what makes your method for learning different (and imperative.)

I know Shawn LeBrun was (or is) offering a deal on emails. Something insane like 5 for $100.

That might be something worth looking into.

pdrs, I play guitar. I write copy. Because of my fees, I'm probably not a candidate for your project.

But I would encourage you to seek out a guitar playing copywriter. There are nuances to the market. I've written for this market a couple times before in the past two years. So I know.

For 20 emails, for most copywriters, $2K-$3K would probably be a fair number. $100+/email.

If that's too rich for you, what you may want to do is spend a few hours with a (guitar playing) copywriter and map out the subject lines and overall strategy/approach to each email.

You can probably get that done for a few hundred bucks and then you can take a crack at doing the emails yourself.

Again, find a guitar player who writes copy.

    Good luck,

    Thanks for the responses guys,

Rick your figures sound about right, is that something you would work for or are you better than most?

I figured because of our niche that it's going to require some specialized talent, and unfortunately my talents solely subside in the playing/teaching part and not the writing part, but the idea of working with a writer to come up with an outline at least sounds promising.

    Cheers,
