You're going to have to talk to people.

And when you do, you'll get access to much better projects than on freelancing sites.

If you're serious about writing online for a living you should check out the popular freelancer sites. Although you'll get a bunch of low bids - don't settle for that. Be straight up and honest and only accept the prices you are willing to work for.

Alternatively, you could check out Jobs for Bloggers - ProBlogger Job Board - they charge people for putting up a job posting. It always has fresh content and from browsing I'd say you can typically get $15-45 per article depending on niche and quality.

Run an ad in the Warriors for Hire section in this forum. Create your own site (if you haven't done so), run classified ads, check out the freelancing sites. You need to build your reputation and it takes time. The more sources you can get your name out to, the faster you can earn money. As for consistency, that also takes time. You need patience as well.

I recently read John Coutt's Well-Paid SEO Content Writer 2013 and it is an excellent tutorial on how to write SEO content and sell your writing services for what you are worth. I highly recommend it. I wish I would have read it when I first started as a ghostwriter.

Speaking from past experience, do not sell yourself short if you are an excellent writer. Don't undercharge or you will find yourself frustrated, writing hours for peanuts. Develop a stellar portfolio and charge what you are worth. Keep learning the how-tos of writing well and keep improving. Sell your services where they are valued.

Read Gordon Burgett's stuff.

There are many ways you can start writing online for big money.. eBooks are GREAT but if you want to make over $2000 a month right out of the gate i would recommend trying odesk.com its one of the biggest online employment agencies. If you're a good writer there are people that will pay you VERY well to do website content. :-) I hope this helps :-)

Why is it sinking?

I ask because, if your ad writing skills can't save your current business I doubt they'll turn out to be a good exit strategy.

If it's sinking for some other reason, I bet you a dollar you can learn more from looking at it and seriously asking yourself why it didn't work out than you can learn from listening to the broke people on this forum.

Or, go to the offline marketing forum and start asking for advice from the people who aren't afraid to invest in direct mail and make cold calls so they can start their business.

Hm maybe its my experience but freelancing sites do not pay enough to be full time income for someone living in the western world

Take it from someone who has used freelancer sites - they are not a good source of full-time income.

Sure, I regularly win proposals that are 50%-100% higher than other bids, but we're talking about bottom feeders here. Maybe twice a month I find projects that pay enough to consider taking on.

When I pick up projects outside freelancer sites, I make about 3 times as much.

Freelancer sites are great for starting out, creating a portfolio, and building your "chops."

But as a source of "full-time" income?

Not if you live in the US.

Interesting comments.

One of the things most Marketers will agree with me on is -- you need to 'put your own money' where your mouth is...

If you have your own 'skin in the game' in other words you write copy for your own products and THEY SELL, this is an INCREDIBLE way to PROVE TO CLIENTS WHAT YOU WRITE COPY THAT SELLS STUFF.

So that is food for thought...

Try writing something yourself for a cheap PLR product first as a quick test.

HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT:

1. You can buy a decent PLR product for $20 bucks or so (not just a cheap ebook) something with videos, audio etc. on one of the cheap PLR sites.

2. Get a website up and slap up your new copy-edited sales letter (you edit one of the crappy PLR products sales letters which is quick and easy to do) and IF IT SELLS you have instant PROOF.

3. Do a couple of those PLR sites and you can use them to boot strap your way to a successful copywriting business faster than -- trying to 'hack your way' into a freelance bidding website like O'Desk or Elance.

Why do I say that? Because that are a gazillion other copywriters (who are much more experienced than you) who WILL DO THEIR BEST TO KNOCK YOU OUT OF THE GAME BY UNDER BIDDING YOU.

Just try it, you have nothing to lose.

You will quickly make a few bucks with your first sales so then you can turn around and use that money to invest in a more professional looking design for your own new business copywriting site.

And be sure to have a section to feature THE PROOF IMAGES OF THE SCREEN SHOTS OF THE SALES!
