Yea this is true Back in then when you got an email from something that was very strange, nowadays it's strange when you get a direct mail

Also this is why direct mail is still a powerful or effective way to do marketing I think. The amount of emails a business gets per day means your message is getting lost in all the noise...and chances are is heading straight to the spam folder or is never read.

On the other hand with direct mail as its physical - if the person opens it, chances are it will be left lying around the office for weeks on end where others can see it, or the owner goes back to it. This has happened to me on many occasions where a few weeks later the reciever will ring me back about a brochure I mailed out to them.

There is one aspect left out of this picture--the cost of both
methods. Email is still practically free compared to direct mail.
So I think email still wins on ROI against DM.

I agree. I would go with email here. Seems like a more logical choice.

    Hi All,

The debate on what works best depends totally on your target market.

Some people (i.e. non-computer literate) of course could not be marketed with email like some of the older crowd with supplement offers, and anything this type of non computer savvy would buy.

Some people like gamers, computer literate people won't look at a direct mail piece as most of their mail is tossed in the trash, they are too impatient to read it.

    So it all depends...

The only way to know for sure is to split test.

There are many more ways to contact possible leads and turn them into buyers beyond just using either of these 2 methods including social marketing, referral marketing, telemarketing, solo ads, ppc, webinars, JVs, etc.

(This list is almost endless...but your time is not. If you are not an expert in one of these lead marketing areas then get the help you need here, there are tons of people available in the Warrior Special Offers For Hire Section.

Start thinking outside the box to boost your business profits!

Good luck with your business in 2014!
