Importance of good copy?

Hi,
I am in the self help niche.

At the moment I have a nice looking site... not a good converting site!

I wrote the content and I think it sounds pretty good however I am contemplating paying out a bit of money for a copywriter for doing the opt in copy and the sales page copy.

I was wondering what people thought about exactly how important they think having good copy is and how impactive it can be to a project.

Even any personal experience from paying out for copy as apposed to relying on your own writing

Copy is not a panacea - it is a sales amplifier.

Do you know who your ideal customers is (and isn't)?
Do you have consistent, qualified traffic?
Do you have a sales strategy or a one-off product you hope will carry the whole load for your business?

Brian, hit the nail on the head.

I tell clients this all the time.

Copy is ONE PART of the sales machine. It is not the magic bullet.

Hell, even if it is the magic bullet.

Unless you load it right, unless you hold the gun right and unless all the parts function. You have a magic bullet that does nothing.

It's important, but so are all the other elements in marketing.

I have seen TERRIBLE copy on sites and discovered the products sold like wildfire.

There are many elements that determine success.

that copy may be terrible in your eyes, but obviously the copy was good because it helped sell the products. remember, if there was ZERO copy, then zero products would be sold

Like others have said, while copy isn't the end all be all, it is CRITICALLY important. You are driving people to a squeeze page -- by its very nature it is ONE page and you have ONE opportunity to communicate the benefit your product offers. Copy must be TIGHT and compelling. When they opt in to your email list, you have the opportunity to communicate with them more frequently...but we need them to opt-in/ buy the product first! DO NOT neglect your squeeze page copy. It sounds like your product is pretty sound and offers a variety of options at different price points.

Like someone mentioned above -- if you yourself happen to suffer from anxiety, then think about what someone could say that would make you want to buy the product. If you don't suffer from anxiety, find someone who does or conduct a survey or split test copy until you know it is resonating with your audience.

    Hi Brian,

    To answer your questions
    1) Yes
    2) Yes, although I am currently split testing ads to see what works best
    3) I currently have four products priced at 14.97, 22.97 and 59.97. I also have a custom recording that I do for $497

The funnel works that they opt in, then get taken to the 14.97 product which I offer one time only 6.97. If they accept this they then get offered my 59.97 product. Whether they take this or not will send them to the upsell of the 497 custom recording or the 22.97 downsell.

    I hope this makes sense?

That's awesome you're so ready for the money to come in.

Which makes having effective copy even MORE important than ever.

Likewise, if you're spending the money to drive traffic, you've gotta send them to something that really, realy, really communicates the emotional value of what you're offering. Make sense?

What self help niche are ya in?

        Hi Mark.

It is around helping with anxiety. The products use a mixture of things such as CBT and more predominantly Hypnotherapy.

I realise the limitations of what people are presented with at the moment. There is a system there but not the copy that generates what you refer to.

I'm feeling that this is the vital missing link that would make the difference although I'm just not sure how much difference

If you're sending targeted traffic... and you intimately understand the emotion/circumstances of your avatar, it'll make all the difference in the world.

What's your story? Did you/do you suffer from anxiety?

The answer to that question might be the inroad to connecting with your audience that you're looking for.

Post the link to your main offer...

          ...or PM me with it.

Simple…if you do not have good copy, you are not going to get people who want to keep coming back to read what you have on your site.

And if you do not get re-visitors, it simple means you are not going to make money.

So, make sure that copy is really really good.

    All the best. Regards.
