I was strolling through Barnes and Noble today and saw the book, White Papers For Dummies by Gordon Graham. Anyone read it yet and have any feedback about the book?

I read it, it was worth a purchase for sure. Most of the info is available online for free at any number of copywriting websites, but the book is well put together and definitely helped me to improve.

      Ryan,

I use to search around at different websites for free material but found that wasn't productive for me. I like reference material I can grab off the shelf and thumb through it. From what you're saying it sounds like some solid material. Thank you

I've got no experience with white papers, but copywriter, author, and forum member Marcia Yudkin has recommended Michael Stelzner's "Writing White Papers".

Do you really need the forum's input to decide whether to buy a regularly-priced book?

Somehow I think you can figure it out...LOL.

      Thomas,

Yes I do. There is a lot of bogus and fluff filled material out there. As I continue to delve deeper into my vocation there will always be a need for sound advice from those more experienced than I. Thank you.

I've read it. It's more up-to-date and broader in
        scope that the Stelzner book.

If you're considering going into white papers
as a specialty, definitely read it.

          Loren,

Actually I have considered writing white papers very seriously. Some of Bob Bly's material touches on white paper writing but doesn't go into great detail. What I did read really appealed to me. Thank you.

Another name for white papers is trade magazine articles
            submitted by product owners/hired gun.

              Ewen,

That was a great article. Thank you for that. Currently I do write technical and marketing articles for the hardware industry. No White Papers yet. Cygnus Business Media is one I write for the most. They own many different publications in different markets. And they do pay well for articles.

                That is an accurate statement.

However, I also know Gordon Graham, know that he knows his stuff and have heard Michael Stelzner praise Graham's book on his podcast. I have not read it, so I can't comment from that point of view.
