Email swipe: example of Market to Match to Offer

15 replies
Hi Copy Gang,

Just wanted to share with you a successful email offer I've got going on.

Feel free to use this concept in your business.

==========

A little background first see you can understand why this works:

So, my main business is a tax preparation business in Arcadia. We go after small business owners with a gross between $500k to $10MM.

They are your typical A.D.D. small business owners.

Our brand, which we're building right now, is aggressive, strategic, and adventurous.

And what does every little boy dream of?

Owning a Ferrari.

Here's the email (btw, it's not flawless. But, it works.)

My cost on this offer is about 5k. We're emailing this offer. We're calling on this offer. We'll also doing a couple of mail pieces.

===============

Email subject headline:

Ferrari or Lamborghini? You pick.

================

Body:

Ever since I was a little boy, I've always wanted to buy a Ferrari. You know, one of those red beasts that races down the freeway. Who everybody looks at. To be honest, it's still one of my goals.

But THIS February, I'll get a little taste of that dream, and [name], I want you there with me.

I bought a couple of VIP experiences where you & I can drive a Ferrari (or Lambo if you like) for a couple laps around a track. Then, we'll have a little BBQ over at my place.

Sounds cool, right [name]?

Now, you're probably wondering if there is a catch....

Of course there is!

Here's the deal:

I've got 20 total tickets.

I'll be releasing this killer opportunity to my Diamond Level clients first. Then my corporate/business clients. Then my rental property clients. Then everybody else.

And this too: you've got to bring (1) potential new client to the experience. They get to race as well.

If this sounds interesting, please reply back asap. like, hit the reply button and let me know if you're interested.

See yeah on the race track.

Adam

p.s. I'm having a welcome back tax season get together January 26. I'll also be presentation on how to quickly and easily prepare your tax documents to make filing your tax return a breeze.

p.p.s. Reply back asap if you're interested in racing a Lambo or Ferrari.

    current and past client for emails.

    phone = past client, current clients, and vendors

    mailings = current clients and vendors

    our primary target are current clients.

    however, we're expanding the reach for branding purposes.

    I'm gonna have to give this a "D" for dumbness.

    This makes no sense.

    You say: "Our brand, which we're building right now, is aggressive, strategic, and adventurous."

    Ok, good idea, but I don't see how this email fits into that.

    Best I can figure...you say you're sending this to your best clients, then less than best, than everyone...

    they have to bring 1 possible client?

    "Hey Joe, how bout coming with me to drive a car for a couple laps?"

    I'm thinking most women would seem unimpressed.

    Seems you're only targeting males.

    I know quite a few women who own some prosperous businesses.

    To me...this isn't a good call for new business. It's more of a "get together" for your current customers to hang out with you.

    You say this is for branding purposes?

    Can't even fathom how you consider this branding. I'd like to hear you elaborate on that.

    26% open rate you say. Seems pretty low since your initial mailing was to your list.

    4% wanting more info? Info for what? Where to show up to drive the car?

    I'm a business owner...don't fit into your "small business owner" status, but this wouldn't excite me.

    Sorry Adam, but this whole promotion seems like it's targeted towards trailer trash business owners with hillbilly dreams.

    Can't see any branding potential...

    to me this promotion degrades your professionalism.

    Why not give away a Ferrari? Why tell your customers you've always dreamed of a Ferrari or Lambo...you don't have one...they don't have one...but hey, let's get together and do a couple laps in one...and hey, bring me a customer...stupid, stupid, stupid.

    So what? You drive a Ferrari for a couple laps...they drive a Ferrari for a couple laps...you all have a BBQ...dude, that was fun...you've got my business.

    Sorry, can't see your thinking on this one.

    Just got off the phone with a new client who was intrigued by this offer. It was enough for him to call me. Then hire me. The guy owns 42 rental properties.

    ========
    Update
    ========

    The original purpose of this event was for current client to bring new potential clients to the event, and eventually close them as new clients.

    On this front, the event was a complete failure. Zero new clients. Ouch.

    However, this event did save me from losing a $11,000 client. Had he not attended this event, and not had such a great experience, I probably would of been fired. This event did save that client relationship.

    Another client who couldn't come, we eventually talked about 2 hours about his favorites cars, and him wanting to attend in the future. I've known this one guy from about 12 years, and learned more about him during this conversation about cars, then every before. He's worth over 10 million. Not hillbilly by my standards

    This also lead to me upselling this client 9X his normal fee, and possible taking on more work he has.

    This event also led to me getting the client with over 42 rental properties. He couldn't attend this event (I advertised this event to my linkedin peeps, which is where he saw this). But this event did grab his attention long enough for him to email me.

    This event also generated a lot of goodwill.

    I know "goodwill" and "branding" aren't trackable nor measurable (easily at least), you can feel it. And event did it.

    In pure dollar terms, I spent around $5,000 to produce the event. I got back around $30,000 in sales revenue.

      Awesome job man!

      At least you tried something outta the box. And while it may not have been a runaway success, it sounds like you definitely expanded your brand reputation and awareness...

      ...which as you said may not be easily trackable, but it was still obviously profitable.

      I promise you that most people on this forum would be envious.

  • It worked!

    Got new clients

    Kept existing clients.

    And it was a fun (and I'm hoping a low cost piece of marketing).
