Website finished - where next!

Hello everyone, so a few weeks ago I began creating my own website to promote my article writing & copywriting services. The website is now finished and i'm not looking on finding clients. I'm assuming I can't post my website address here , but i'm confident it's looking good and ready to start being viewed by potential clients.

Like I said in earlier posts I use the ProBlogger job board to find work now and again, but I find it quite unreliable and hard to get responses sometimes.

Somebody recommended doing a sales thread on warrior-forum, would anyone else recommend that also? I'm thinking of just paying the $20 and getting a decent sales page completed to promote through here.

Also I'm probably not going to bother trying to get the website ranked for search terms as I think it's more of a base to show clients when trying to get them to part with their money - would you agree or would you guys recommend trying to rank well in the search engines?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance everyone!

Alex

You can place the link in your signature.

I personally found my WFH post to be extremely successful, so I would definitely look in to the further.

When it comes to website, I generally use it as something to refer people to... (admittedly my website is terrible and needs updating.)

I'm assuming you have your portfolio up on there?

EDIT: Just noticed you're from Chi, I'm up near Horsham!

Cheers for your reply mate. I actually viewed your site a few days ago coincidentally, and noticed you were based near me!

Yeah my portfolio is up on my site, I may PM you the link to take a look at if you wouldn't mind?

      Many thanks,

      Alex

I don't know if what you mean by website, it is actually a blog site. I would have rather started with a blog to promote yourself. When you have earned the name, then you graduate into a full website and start selling other items related to what you are blogging about.

Send my a skype (joesfortune) if you need help with your website or blog, or whatever.

If you're honestly trying to combine article writing and copywriting, you'll lack any credibility.

If you want to write copy, write copy... and break away from the article writing mentality.

You won't be successful or make any real money until you do.

Of course, it's not even enough to make that shift. You need to brand and position yourself in the copy marketplace in a way that demonstrates authority.

Where are you entering the conversation?

Who's your ideal client? Do they already know copy is essential to making money appear out of thin air? Or are you trying to sell the concept to newer marketers? (i.e. educate them?)

Are there specific markets and/or niches you want to focus on? If so, why?

Can you genuinely help clients position themselves to produce the highest profitability possible... or are you functioning from a place of, "I think I can... but I have no real idea..."???

    Just curious.

    Anyway...

Choose one side of the fence.

If you CAN write copy, screw articles.

Thanks for your input Mark - combining article writing & copywriting is something I was unsure about, and I feared what you said would be the case - the problem I face is that article writing jobs are ( in my case) a lot easier to come by than copywriting jobs at the moment, so I need to be taking on all the work I can!

Do you think it would be a good idea to create a separate site for copywriting, or abandon articles all together, and put together some sample copy on my website. I'm by far a better article writer than I cam copywriter at the moment, but I'm spending a lot of time attempting to develop my skills as a copywriter, so that hopefully one day I can start taking on proper projects!

      Thanks again,
      Alex

To me, combining article and copywriting is like owning a Mexican restaurant and serving Chinese food. They both might be writing (like Mexican and Chinese cuisine are both food,) but that's where the similarities stop.

I'd personally just focus on writing copy. Learn it by doing it. Pick out some products and write alternate copy on the side. Then, when you feel you like you'll actually be able to help make someone money, take on a few clients.

But the idea of writing article after article for $10, $20... even $50 just doesn't make sense to me. How can you possibly make a living? (While consistently producing well-researched, totally original articles?)

        So yeah...

Make the two businesses separate for sure. And keep writing articles - if that's really doing anything for your bottom line...

But put yourself on a crash course for writing copy.
