My formula for winning squeeze pages

Squeeze page copy has always been one of the things that came naturally to me, even before I became a copywriter. This is a formula that I've been using for few years now and has proven to be effective every single time. I hope that you try it out and get the same results that I have, or even better.

1. A short but catchy headline
The headline is by far the most important piece of the puzzle. Without a catchy headline, visitors will leave your site and you'll never get them back.

Try using words like, "discover", "secret", "how to", "how I", and "introducing".

2. A short introduction paragraph that promises results
The first paragraph of your squeeze page should tell your readers exactly what they're going to learn. Make a big promise here. This paragraph should range from two to five sentences, all of which should be short and punchy.

3. Bullet points that emphasize your benefits
I dare say that the bullet points are the second most important part of your squeeze page. The purpose of the bullet is to persuade the reader with quick and easy to read reason why they should sign up for your newsletter.

Make sure to effectively bold and italicize your bullet points so they stand out even further. I'll even recommend using graphics as your bullet points.

4. Expand on the bullets
Take two to three short paragraphs and expand on what your bullets tell the reader. Remember since you only have a few lines here make this as persuasive as possible.

5. Call to action
Use a Johnson box for your call to action. This helps differentiate your call to action from the rest of the page. Use very specific instructions in your call to action, tell tte reader exactly what you want them to do. Leave no room for doubt.

Think about leaving the name field out if you are promoting a newsletter. This is a guaranteed way to get a higher opt-in rate. Sure, this results in less personalization in your e-mails but you'll have a much larger database to work with.

6. Disclaimer
Always, always, always have a disclaimer at the end of your squeeze page. This can be as short as, "We value your privacy and will never sell or give your e-mail away."

Your readers are more cautious than ever about giving their information away. You need to do your best to satiate them and guarantee that you will never abuse the permission they've given you to contact them.

I hope that you take this information to heart and give it a shot. It's not unusual to see 50% or higher when using this formula. I've used it on countless squeeze pages and it always amazes me when I see the results that it pulls.

    Here is something that I'll add if you use popups. I know a lot of people don't like them, but if you do the amount of time you take the have the pop up appear actually matters.
    For example, on one of my sites we found that we get 25% higher conversions by having the pop up occur at 12 seconds vs 8 seconds (which was twice as good as the next closest number...but I dont remember what that one was).
    Always play around with everything, coz even if your just making a bunch of small improvements, it adds up over time.

      You'll love to know that I'm actually working on a free report that will be submitted into the War Room once it's finished. It's going to go into excruciating detail in showing you how I get a 50%-70% conversion rate without fail.

    Does anyone else actually feel offended when someone mail-merges personal information into the email?

    When I get email that has the subject "New offers for you Caliban", I do not feel like I've been treated as a special and unique individual. I feel like you are lying to me. These aren't new offers for me. They're new offers for everyone on your list. You will take a credibility hit for that, in my book.

    I would rather see a subject line that says "New offers for our subscribers". That makes me feel like part of a special ingroup, which in fact I am - your list is a mighty exclusive thing! So that subject tells me the truth, and appeals to my ingroup motivation to be part of the special and unique crowd I've joined.

    Am I just weird?

    I'm new to all this and I'm struggling to get a picture of what goes where. Probably I'm stupid, but would you be able to tell me where the Squeeze page fits into the overall website layout? Is it the first thing a visitor to the site should see?

    Sorry for such basic questions, I feel so stupid.

      A squeeze page is generally separate from your website. At least that's how I usually have it set up.

      Here's a little flowchart for ya.

      Traffic to squeeze page -> Sign up for newsletter -> Contact them over time -> Make friends with subscribers -> Sell to them -> Sell to them -> Sell to them

      Although you have to keep the 80/20 rule in mind. 80% of your content should be quality info, not sales related.

      Haha, no. I've chosen to put it in the War Room for a few reasons. If you're serious about success though, you should definitely be a part of the War Room. There's SO much high quality information in there it's insane. Only the best posts that are submitted get approved.

      I'm submitting it to the War Room because I don't want the world to have it, only those who will really use the information. I get that guarantee by placing it there.

      I may end up making it a WSO at one point, but I don't think I'll be selling the information any time soon.

      Senve... I promise you that if you'll cough up $37, you will find the War Room to be worth 10 times the value - on the first day alone.

      The only problem you have in the way of Internet marketing is the one between your ears. Fix that with a few smart decisions and you'll stop all this silliness.

      The success you crave so desperately is just on the other side of a few good choices on your part.

      Seriously, you're like a guy locked inside a room pushing and slamming and throwing himself against a door trying desperately to get out...

      And all you have to do is PULL the door open.

      I'd wish you good luck, but you'd probably just accuse me of trying to raise your hopes so I can scam you.
