A simple way to increase squeeze page conversions

Last week I had several folks send me their squeeze pages and asked me what I thought about them.

Most had very low opt in rates... like under 25%.

I replied back to these marketers and told them to do just ONE thing to them... and that their conversions would increase.

Sure enough, 3 of them sent me emails yesterday and today and told
me that their conversions increased. One went up a little bit, one doubled,
and the other hit close to 60% when before it hovered near 25%.

See, most of their opt ins promised too many things... or what they promised was so general and broad.

So, the one thing I had each of them do...

1. First, think of the single biggest problem in your market

2. Then, give out ONE specific tip that conquers and solves that problem.

ONE... and make it a specific statement. Use numbers, time frames, etc...

If I'm searching online for information to solve a problem...I'm looking for specifics.

Tell me how to do just one thing... don't overwhelm me.

If I'm looking to lose weight and yet I don't have a ton of time... I'll opt in quicker if you show me...

"Here's one exercise I did that helped me lose 20 pounds in 8 weeks... and it took all of 7 minutes a day, right from home."

Then, right under the headline... show a before and after pic.

Or if I'm looking to improve conversions on my site...

"Here's the one sentence I used on my site to increase my conversion
rate from 1% to 2%."

Below the headline, show a split test screen of conversions.

Or if I want more web traffic...

"Here's the one inexpensive traffic source I used to double my leads and traffic... and it took me 5 minutes and $25 to get started."

Underneath... show a screen shot of Google Analytics with the traffic
increase.

Those are just examples... winging it, but give out one specific solution in an optin.

I do a ton of squeeze pages for my sites... and the one constant headline that works well with them... is giving out one specific "do this and you'll get that" statement.

Then, underneath the headline that promises just ONE secret... prove it with a picture or other method of proof.

Don't be generic and say stuff like "how to make money online" or "how to lose weight"

Zero in, be ultra specific, and offer ONE tip.

The more things you throw at your reader, the more confused and overwhelmed they become

Look, on a squeeze page, you got a 50-50 shot you'll get them to opt in.

So give them ONE idea and thought to focus on... one thing to learn... and that will increase the odds they want to know that one thing.

Make it VERY helpful... and zero in on the single biggest problem the reader has.

Don't focus on more than one problem... zero in on THE biggest.

It also helps if you can make it curiosity provoking as well.

I've found that the combo of making it ultra specific... showing the reader how to do ONE thing that produces the outcome they want... and also make it curiosity-provoking... it helps improve opt ins greatly.

For seasoned writers here... I'm sure this is old news... but for the newer
writers... this could help your clients greatly increase their optins.

I'm working with a client that has a new way of doing squeezes and getting the opt-in. He's seeing 70/80/90% conversions. Yeah. Launches soon so I can't tell you more. You're on the right track here - but this thing goes further. Watch this space.

Shawn, it's talked about a lot at LeadPages what's
working because they have a lot of traffic and data to base
      their findings on.

Part of the offers that are kicking butt now
is about time that people don't have
to sit through an ebook, or god forbid a series of emails.

Lists of tools that are free or low cost
to speed up the desired result are working great now.

      Best,
      Ewen

Dan Kennedy calls is complexity creep. When in doubt make things simpler. Simpler instructions tend to have higher opt-in rates than complex instructions. This is why even major companies like Google and Microsoft are using cartoons to get people to sign up for their ad services.

    Hi Shawn
I've seen a similar approach on many big site doorway pages - they're just a squeeze page with a simple offer designed to give you little option but to sign up - Take people like Dropbox:

Just shows many people over complicate the process. I'm on my way to re-do my squeeze page!

Do not try to trick your customers. Also it is not about the opt-ins you get, its about the number of opt-ins that will read your email. You should make it clear to the customer they are joining your list. Otherwise you end up with a big list with no readers.

    Great point Shawn.

Btw.... this is one reason why my WARNING squeeze page (you know, the one that EVERYONE'S using now. lol) worked real well.

the headline/offer/appeal was the main bit of copy on the page.

it forced you to focus on that one thing and nail it vs trying to optimize 5-10 different variables, bulletpoints images etc.

Had a lot of success just testing 20+ different headlines/offers/appeals/

And mal.... 70-90% optin rates? WTF?!? :-)

    lol... those numbers... from that?

been using it manually for well over a year or two.

does work to bump the #'s up, but getting those numbers is 100% the niche.

in my niche's you aren't getting those #'s.

but the tool looks pretty cool.... i'll probably grab it, just not sure why the hell its a wp plugin...lol (I would have made it a web based software)
