What is troubling you the most when it comes to copywriting or conversion? Not here to promote my link or anything, just interested in seeing what copywriters, especially newbies, are having the toughest time with.

Thnx-

I'm getting ready to start generating clients - here is the biggest worry at the forefront of my mind:

Working with a client who sucks, doesn't follow directions/do what they said they would, the project fails and they blame you for it - or they have a broken system in place, expecting a piece of copy to make it all better, when the reality is the system they have is broken.

thanks for replying but i was referring to actually writing the copy, not copywriting as a business.

        Hardest part?

Coming to the realisation that the "perfect" copy I always strive for is impossible to obtain.

There's no such thing as a perfect copy...

    • You'll find most people are cool.
Just as long as you do your best and get to know your craft and make sure they have realistic expectations.

The most difficult people have crazy expectations.
Some one on here last week was looking for a 15% conversion rate to cold traffic for his dog pooh IM product.

Copy is just one part of the marketing machine. remember that.

I've only ever had 2 nightmare clients I can think of.
You'll definitely get a feel they are going to be difficult right from the start.
even if you need the money, cut them loose at that stage.

Personally I sometimes have troubles finding that happy medium between transparency and adding the "marketing" methods in my copy.

Often times I just want to be like,

here's my product, here's who it's for, here's what it can do for you, yes it requires work, no you wont [insert benefit] instantly, etc..

But there's no emotions involved in that now is there?!

    what chris said...

and also customers who aren't sure about what they need. i recently wrote a couple of sales letters for products that don't exist yet, or are in the starting phase of development.

customers weren't clear about this, and i didn't catch it in time before i committed to do the work. i ended up doing 3x as much research, and it took a lot longer than expected.

however each one of these things is a lesson, and i feel grateful to do what i really like doing.

Man, that can be a pain.

But, one of the guy's on here taught me a cool trick...

As long as you're working with a serious online marketer, you can "reverse engineer" the product.

By that I mean, write the copy first and then create the product.

It creates a really good connect between product and copy which can help sales...

And requires a tiny amount of extra work on your part, sometimes less as you can really "go wild" with what you think your target market would like.

Girl actually (I get that a lot here.)

You're 100% right about reverse engineering... One of the customers will end up using the sales letter as the outline for writing the actual product.

However another one had a product in her head, so we did a lot of back and forth because she'd say something like "well those are not the benefits that module will provide".... and I'd ask her to give me the outline for the module and she'd respond "well I didn't really finish it yet..."

Like I said though, it's all a learning experience.
