I remember Gary Halbert talking about how John Carlton can make his guitar talk. And when Gary asked him how he could play like him Carlton answered, "10,000 hours."

I think playing any instrument teaches you the long process it takes to master something. Plus playing guitar hurts your fingers in the beginning so there is an extra layer to get through before you can get really good...

And of course we'd play the sexiest instrument.

I'm pretty sure the % of janitors, plane pilots and retail workers playing guitar is about the same too. Lots of people play guitar is all.

Songwriters try to tell a story, to evoke an emotional response, as do copywriters. The guitar is the easiest instrument to learn and the most versatile to write songs with. It's extremely portable and chicks dig it. So you can write a song, take your guitar to the beach, sing and play that song, be rejected by that girl you really like, be showered with attention and later stalked by that other girl, then incorporate all of this into a story about selling your product to the wrong audience.

No, we were talking about songwriting. Nearly all songs, including this one, are made up of a few simple chords. What Emmanuel does around those chords sets him apart as a player, not a songwriter. LOVE this version!

That's interesting.

It certainly explains a lot. I played rock and metal guitar for 11 years before becoming a copywriter. Most of the guitarists I knew, including myself, were damn competitive, egotistical and at times really abrasive about the "right" way to do things and about what constituted good playing.

I wonder if Yngwie Malmsteen is writing clickbank copy.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. It's like those people who just cannot WAIT for you to finish speaking so they can say what they have to say. Kinda makes jam sessions blow, which is criminal. If there's one activity that should never blow, it's that one.

I admit I've been that guy before, but no more. Now I try to underplay in that situation and just do nice fills and smooth chordings in back and step up when it's time.

Yngwie. Yikes. Not the demure type.
