Hi,

I want to thank everyone on this forum, I have found so much valuable information here!

I wanted to let everyone know about this little gem. It is Gary Halbert's exact method for learning copywriting in 30 days. Amazing.

The Gary Halbert Letter

Thanks all!

P.S. You want to know what a truly world-class, no-excuse, no-BS copywriter ought to be able to do? It's this: He ought to be able to write an ad that tells how good he is. Hell, if he can't sell himself, how can you expect him to sell your goods or services.
    ************

This gem from Gary ought to be the litmus test whether you call yourself a copywriter or not.

Here is the list Gary said you must read.
I'd want you to read everything listed below: "Scientific Advertising"
    -by Claude Hopkins
    "The Robert Collier Letter Book"
    -by Robert Collier
    "Tested Advertising Methods"
-by John Caples "How To Write A Good Advertisement" -by Vic Schwab
"The Gary Halbert Letter" (all back issues)
    -by Gary Halbert
"The Boron Letters" -by Gary Halbert
"The Lazy Man's Way to Riches"
    -by Joe Karbo
    "Break-Through Advertising"
    -by Eugene M. Schwartz
    "7-Steps To Freedom"
    -by Ben Suarez
    OK.

Amazing? A better description would be ludicrous.

Good post. I especially appreciate that you spelled Voila correctly (rather than use the typical VIOLA).

It's actually spelled voilà. Not to be a spelling Nazi or anything.

Not in caps it's not. Lower case, you are correct. Not to be pedantic.

PLEEEEASSSSEEEEE Alex, 30 days is way too much time
If you read Halbert's method carefully, you'll realize that what he's asking wannabes to do is virtually impossible to accomplish in 30 days.

              That's why it's ludicrous.

Was it meant to be literal? CAN someone do it, sure, if they have the time and books right in front of them and all his newsletters. 30 days, 60 days, 90 days...still a damn good outline of a quick education.

                  We don't know.

We do know that wannabes take things Halbert said literally.

Like the guy who posted here about his goal to write 100 sales letters out by hand because Halbert supposedly said to... and later complained about getting carpal tunnel.

Shock and awe is one good way to warn innocents. The technique is used in a variety of industries and career fields.

                  It gets their attention.

So you're asserting that the capitalized version is spelled VOILA, and NOT VOILÁ...? Could you please post a reference for that spelling rule, I'm curious.

Wait a minute... shebang? I always thought it was SHAbang... can I get a reference for that too?

It's just what's normally done in French...at least here in Canada which I suppose some don't consider real French in the same way that some don't consider North American English real English.

                Anyway...

I know that it is more common not to use punctuation with uppercase words. And since I write copy I am more concerned with what it normally done than being 100% correct.

                Aiight?

Yeah, I agree. The name calling made it difficult for you to claim the moral high ground.

                    Glad you edited it out.
