Story Copywriting-- Who Should I Learn From?

Hello Warriors,

I am interested to get started in Copywriting and I have chosen to use the story telling models.

I have heard about John Caples and he is the only one I know of but I haven't read any of his copies, except "The Two Young Men". I will appreciate it if I am given links to his sales copy and other notable story telling copies by other copywriters.

Check the WSO forum. Lots of 'stories' there.

    Storytelling model?

That's just one dynamic of copywriting. You'll want to get a lot more tools in your belt.

One of my clients game me this book a few weeks ago. I'ts got dozens of stories for selling MLM, but they can be easily repurposed for other niches.

    Some other cool stories here:

Also, do some reading on the "Hero's Journey" format (I have a product on this if you're interested, but can't post it here). You'll see that used a LOT in the Biz Opp niche.

Frankly though, I"ve learned more about Storytelling from Stephen King's "On Writing" than from any copywriting course.

Might wanna check out Vin Montello, Andre Chaperon and Kevin Rogers.

As an addition, you probably also want to study "The Hero's Journey" as a master plot for your stories. It's the story most "gurus" use in one way or another.

If you really want a storytelling primer, learn how news articles are constructed. Hard news gives you the who, what, when, where, why and how without too much detail. That's storytelling at its most minimal. Its like learning to play an instrument -- you start by learning scales.

well everyone has given you great tips, I will instead offer something a little different,

story telling is easy when you have a story to tell. The beautiful thing about stories, is that they are literally every where!

you dont need to "come up with" a story, a lil research and your story will find you. Politics, the news, reality tv, sports, your personal life, or movies. Stories are everywhere you just have to pay attention.

    headline
    lead
    story
    bullets
    close

    see you space cowboy,

    bang

Here's a few examples to get you started: http://swiped.co/types/storytelling/

I'm particularly a fan of Bud Weckesser (from Green Tree Press) when it comes to story ads (the first three on that site are examples). Cliffhanging headlines lead into stories told by a persona who's exactly like the target buyer & had success with the product. Very effective.

Plenty of other great copywriters mentioned in the thread, but I'm going to doubly agree on Dan Kennedy. Not because he has great copy examples built on stories, but because if you buy any of his products, you discover how most all of his content is delivered brilliantly in story format.

I can't recommend Paul Hancox enough. If you're just getting started, he'll not only help you with your storytelling, but give you an array of other tools and methods you can use to really improve as a copywriter relatively quickly (3-6 months or so). He's not super cheap, but you get what you pay for...

Wow, what a great resource list! I'll be saving this one and work my way down the list, checking out all the resources I don't have yet.

There's also Matt Furey, by the way! He still sends out emails, though I can't quite remember where to sign up for them, but if you Google him, you should be able to find something.
