Where To Start

Hi everyone,

On one hand I am excited, im learning so much, but on the other hand its daunting realising there are so many pitfalls i could experience and ruin the launch of my product. I am at the stage now where I really need to work on my pitch.

I will try to not make this a long post so will get to the point.

I am an expert in a particular niche and have created a set of video tutorials on this subject. I know the information is good and is better than nearly all my competitors (ive been in this industry my entire career and read pretty much everything out there on it so know about the competition).

However i have so much self doubt about whether i can actually get someone to take action and purchase this?

A few personal observations I have found about sales copy, those long reams of text sales pitches are useless and i dont think I have ever bothered reading to the end of one of them so needs to be snappy and to the point so have a few key bullet points to focus on.

I just am not sure what works, personally as soon as i feel im being "sold to" and pushed my initial reaction is to push back and get annoyed i am being pressured into anything. Maybe I am unique and the stats tell us selling hard get results? I just dont know, i am really keen on being seen as an authentic expert not a marketeer. But at the same time I want to convert people.

Does anyone have any advice on where to start please?

  • Hi Tommy,

I´ve been learning about copywriting since February. I´m not as experienced as other members on this site and I don´t have much details about what you´re doing, but from what I have read I would not make selling the product appear to be the focus.

Instead concentrate on giving value and proving how you can give this value to propects. Focus on the benefits to them, as opposed to the tone of ¨buy now¨ etc.

There´s lots of techniques, so it´s hard to explain in one post. I recommend you read Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene Schwartz. Or google his name and look for a summary of his techniques. Otherwise I think you may have a lot of reading to do!

    Regards,

    Jon
  • You'll have to give us a bit more info.

Where are your prospects in the sales cycle?

Tell us more about your product. What mindset are your prospects in?

Until you give us more details that we can use, the best answer is ... it depends.
  • Why do you think this? Have you written sales copy before?

It sounds like you haven't, so this is a fair comment.

People don't feel like they're being 'sold to' if the product/offer is of benefit to them. Have you ever seen an ad which made you buy from it? Did it push you away by selling to you? You probably won't even remember the ad, but you bought the product!

By providing value to people, you will be seen as an authentic expert. Just because you charge for that value, doesn't make you a marketer.

Like another member said, give us some more.

But keep in mind, that sometimes it's just best to hire an expert.
  • Thanks for the responses guys.

    • It sounds like you're on the fringes of crafting your offer, which is a good place to start.

So what EXACTLY are you offering?

3 hours of watching you trade and?

Are you going to offer 1to1 mentoring, support or more videos etc? And how much for?

      Tell us your offer.

      ...

Not all sales copy is "get rich quick," trust me on that one.

You're on an IM forum where a lot of what's sold is in that vein, but it would be naive to think that this is the way in all niches.

      Chris

P.S. Don't confuse "get rich quick" with emphasising the benefits.
    • Hi Tommy,
If I were you I would highlight this contrast between other courses and yours in your ad. And then emphasize more the process of what you can offer!

  • If your selling point is your experience, I think you need to build a relationship with your readers and show them that you know more than the competition.

This will take time, but unless you have another unique aspect I think it's the best way to go.

Create a list, provide them with free information, (discretely) emphasize that you know what you're talking about.

Once they trust you, that's when you can rack up the sales.

OR you can explain WHY yours is better than the competition, and drive that home.

    Just my 2 cents.
  • You could try creating a customer avatar; that can help give you a bit of direction, and help clear up some questions you're already probably asking yourself, like .. what type of person buys your product etc ...

There's lots of free information around the net about Customer Avatars or you could check out the link in my signature; I created a program that helps create customer avatars really quickly.

    Just a thought
  • Tommy-G,

    Yes, I do.

You have too much self-doubt and too many (incorrect) preconceived notions about sales to write an effective sales letter.

My advice: Hire a good copywriter who can 1) help with your positioning, 2) map out a marketing strategy, and 3) write your copy.

You need an expert in your corner.

    • I have a question on that...That as I have really started to dig in myself, I wondered.

For those that would LOVE to have a copy ace up their proverbial sleeve how can they foot the bill without sales?

Is there a ninja secret that might be a product in the making? Something Like...

  • Thanks everyone for the feedback. It's very helpful. I was definitely planning on trying to engage with my customers and prove what I can do and what I know which hopefully builds their trust and then sales.
  • What exactly is it that you're trying to sell?
If you wanna make a sales pitch, make it less about facts and figures, and make it more about your customer, and how they actually need your product. Convince them of that and you have a sale.

  • Don't think so much.. Just do it.
Why do you think people will not buy from you?
Is your niche not in demand?

Btw I also do not like when people try to sell me something. If you want people to see you as a expert, provide value. Show them what you know. Build relationship with them. Keep the best part to sell as infoproduct.
  • Come on, brother. Listen to yourself: "I" this, and "I" that and "I" the other thing. You know what? Your customer doesn't care about your problems. Are you going to hold back on helping people because you are worried about how to do it?

Did I tell you about my friend who had a cure for cancer? He told me he was worried about being authentic and didn't want to come off like a marketer.

I said, "Dude! You have a friggin cure for cancer! What are you talking about? Get that information out there, help tons of people, put a fair price on it, make some money and let's go golfing."
