What Do You Guys Think Of Mike Chang (Six Pack Dude On Youtube)?

Anyone here familiar with the bodybuilding niche guy Mike Chang?

For some weird reason, I can't actually get linkable copies of videos on Youtube... They seem to only exist as ads not standalone videos.

That's a shame because I really wanted to share/discuss two videos of his:

1. The "Eating Like A Pig Ad."

This video opens showing Mike sitting down in front of a table stuffing his face full of food.

He is visibly ripped and most of it his just him talking about how he eats like a pig... And putting his money where his mouth is, downing fried chicken, ice cream, other tasty items...

2. The Silent Killer Ad.

In this ad the narrator just keeps building and building suspense talking about this "silent killer" that's killing men all over the country... It turns out he's just talking about belly fat but the way he builds it up is really interesting.

I'm bringing this guy up as an example because he's pretty much the ONLY person whose youtube ads have ever made me stop and watch the whole thing.

This is all the more amazing considering I don't even follow his niche... And I usually just stop watching after 30 seconds or with most youtube ads no matter how interested in them I am.

I wish I could find one of the videos I'm talking about but I can't find one.

I think his video ads really illustrate the importance of two things:

1. Having A Unique Hook

Something I've noticed with all Mike's ads is that they stand out from pretty much everything else on Youtube immediately.

Take that "eating like a pig" ad for instance. Right from the beginning you just see this ripped guy with a plate of junk food in front of him pigging out. It's so completely different from most bodybuilding ads, which always seem to focus on the "no pain no gain" side of the equation... It grabs your attention immediately just by the novelty of it.

2. Open Loops And Suspense

Why did I actually sit down to watch all of Mike's "silent killer" ad when I usually don't bother with Youtube ads?

Because, he instantly frames it in such a way as to leave you wanting more. He grabs any male viewer instantly by saying there's a "silent killer" that's affecting men... And he just keeps building the list of scary consequences of this "silent killer" without telling you what it is. It gets you invested in the video and wanting to finally find out what that "silent killer" is! By the time he finally gives it away, you don't even notice that he's talking about the most mundane thing ever (essentially, obesity), you're just happy to finally get the payoff.

Anyway, just sharing something that caught my attention recently. Also if anybody knows where to find his videos I'd be grateful if you shared them!

  • I like the eat like a pig, I saw it on youtube, I think it's fantastic and it's true. I use to think the secret to loosing wait was cutting calories and that is a lie most believe, the truth is you can eat like a pig and sit on your behind and lose weight which is what I did, so I know it's true, my guess is he teaches which calories, there are good and bad, most eat bad, I'm sure he doesn't. So it's great because it attacks the dogma and it's true, I like it! I'm sure i upsets tons of fat people starving with diet this and fat free that (I use to be one of them).

You are right it's a bit over the top but that is for dramatic effect but it's true what he says, just look at what he is eating, there is not sugar or aspartame or stuff like that and after and before that mean I'm sure the guy has nutrients and fiber. You can eat 3000 calories a day and loose weight or 1500 and gain it depends on what, plus he has a huge muscle mass and works out.

What he is doing is going over the top to get attention in real life no one talks like that but hay, on youTube you have 3 seconds to grab attention and that is what he is doing well.

In any case I 2 like it.

I've seen the Eat Like A Pig ad, and being someone who is fit and works out regularly, it immediately comes off as not credible. You only need to look at him for one second to know what is coming out of his mouth is complete shit.

However, his market is probably fat guys who don't yet know that he is full of shit. So, that would be why it doesn't work for me. Though I am into fintess, nutrition and weight training, his market is fat guys who want to be fit.

I think you hit it in the nail. What kind of moron idiot would eat poison to gain weight and risk dying every single day and pay for it, well I did and millions do. There are millions who will eat poison and gain weight and that is hart to understand unless you do it, and I did. His copy is fantastic for people like me!

Mike Chang is a fascinating marketer but as it goes for his advice...I'd take it with a pinch of salt. His content has been geared more recently towards getting his subscribers to buy his stuff or sign up to his promoters (i.e the Guiness World Records pull up challenge)

I don't know about you but when I see a fitness 'guru' stuff his face with food while trying to talk to me about how I can lose weight...while coaching quarter squats and who also apparently has the world record for half pull ups done with a 40lb pack...I start to question his motives.

Especially in an industry such as fitness where so many people have a dire problem and just want to get it fixed.

As someone who was always big and dropped 70lbs last year, packed on decent muscle. The actual secret is simple.... stop eating ANYTHING that IS or USED to be white. Sugar, potatoes, starch, flour or grain, fat, dairy... just drop the lot and watch the weight fall off stupidly fast. I did cardio 2hrs per day and weights in the evening. If it looks like part of an animal, or got pulled out the ground or off a tree. Scoff as MUCH as you want.

Unless the video is different to the one I have seen, he is not eating ice-cream and fried chicken. He's eating steak, vegetables, rice and sushi. He says he eats like a pig, meaning he eats a lot of food and consumes a lot of calories. He specifically says he doesn't stuff his face with donuts and ice-cream, but that he has cheat meals now and then.

The guy is a bodybuilder and needs a lot of energy and calories to maintain his lean muscle mass and fuel his workouts. Nothing he says is really any different from what other gurus in this niche teach.

Not sure what all the hate is for, people who think he is full of shit probably have not listened to what he is actually saying.

Exactly, he clearly says he's not wolfing donuts every day. Plus he has several videos where they look at several "good" foods that are actually not so good for you.
