Creating your own product

Fellow warriors,
I've seen a lot of advice here about creating your own product and marketing it. What kind of product(s) are you talking about? E-books? (Sorry for my newbness...) Thanks!

most of the time, this is an ebook in PDF format on a method X. There may also have videos (how to use software such as site, how do such a thing ...), an audio recording.

It can be also lists: keywords, what sells best Amazon / Ebay / ...

And there are also packs PLR: articles, websites, ...

There's a nugget of truth in this, but most of it is regurgitated BS.

Gemm, have you read Joe's sticky? The 1000th post? It's an info overload, but there are LOTS of great ideas out there.
      • Sell live trainings (webinars or teleconferences)
      • Sell books/articles/blogs
      • Collect stories from raving fans and publish those in a book and sell that back to those raving fans
      • Make something physical and sell that

There are a million possibilities out there. You have to find something that resonates with you and your style. Start getting on email and mailing lists and see what others are selling. What are you tempted to buy? What do you think you'd have fun or enjoy doing?

  • Given the choice…

I would sell a real, tangible physical product.

But Steve why would you go to all that trouble - when you can knock out a (coughs) digital book or a webilong spiel?

Well, highly unscientific research indicates that 93.797% of people who downloaded their 1,975th pdf or whatever weren't exactly overjoyed with the content.

    2 reasons came to light.

One the good people never read (or looked at) the damn thing.

And many that would didn't because the "list of contents" wasn't linked.

You know what I mean - you press Page 27 and nothing happens and you knacker your mouse as you scroll all day long.

And with a webilong - be honest being clued to a computer (at an unearthly time zone) for ages with a constantly freezing screen isn't much fun.

Just about every one I have ever watched had some kind of "technical issue"

Or it just droned on and on.

And even for a Hollywood superstar it's tough to speak for 97 minutes without going "errr" every 9 seconds.

(unless the script is wonderfully prepared and rehearsed)

Low and behold a physical "book" might never be opened - but the good people tend to be glad they have it.

    They think...

"Yea, one day (when I need to use it ) I know it's there…"

Same with a webilong better of sending out a DVD.

gemm, how about some real world examples?

TALK. I gave a seminar to my golf students, recorded it, had it put on cassette and sold it, then on CD, and then on MP3.

Today, you can use one of many places, like Kunaki...low cost start-up, let them do all the work (you still need to SELL it, the difficult part).

IF your material warrants, put it on Video. We recorded a live seminar and put it on 18 vcr tapes, back in 1995...sold a ton of them. Again, today you can have a wide number of 3rd parties package and sell you videos, and YouTube is always there too.

So, you can simply talk on a subject you know. Don't know anything? Do an interview with someone regarded as expert in whatever field you want to work in. Lots of experts willing to be interviewed for free.

Then, you can have your TALK transcribed into a document, make it a pdf or epub file and sell a "report" or a book even. You can then have these made ON DEMAND, 48hourbooks here in Akron is awesome. So is bookmasters in Ashland, OH. I can recommend both.

In my Golf business, I gave a one hour TALK. Charged 20 bux, got 50 students to attend. On cassette, we sold a ton of them, and on CD we had more sales...so I had an additional audio program.

Video is easy today, I still prefer guerrilla style (me and the camera and some scribbling on white boards).

So, ONE product, or one idea, can be an audio, a video, a report or book...all created on demand by someone else, and your job is to MARKET and sell, yes, you get to do the hard part.

I've helped scores of people and businesses develop products over the years, and my best advice is

ACT FAST and take action, don't wait for perfect, find out if there is a market, get feedback from them, adjust, make it a better and better product...then build a family of products, topics related to a central theme.

In golf, I had clubs, books, balls, gloves...a newsletter and any "affiliate" products I could find that my list of buyers wanted.

    So, it looks like this:

TALK, or find someone who will.
    RECORD.
    DUPLICATE.
    MARKET, MARKET, MARKET.
    VIDEO
    COACH/CONSULT/CONFER
    FAMILY OF RELATED TOPICS
    MARKET, MARKET, MARKET, MARKET, MARKET

But, whatever you choose to do, do it NOW. Do any of us have guaranteed time to spend on thinking, perfecting, being anxious, or delaying any idea we have? Good on you all, if you got tomorrow guaranteed.

TAKE action, and solve your problems in the direction of your goals.

Which should be the first step you take, to clearly identify what you want. And why you want it.

    Good luck,

    gjabiz

I have forgotten: softwares, useful softwares (I think of Arbitrage Underdog or Amatrage).

Make something physical and sell that
Didn't see a lot of physical products in this forum.
