Copy Writing "Speed Bump" Clarification Please

I was reading an article by Ben Settles on copy writing "speed bumps".

He pointed out the mistake of placing a video or testimonial in the middle of the sales page as one example of a speed bump. But he never said where to place them.

I think most sales letters I've read have the testimonial or video in the middle or in the vicinity.

Any clarification or thoughts on this?

  • Hi, if you're doing a combo VSL Text sales letter as an example, you'd put the video at the top just under your headline generally, then a strong sub head under the video and continue with your letter after that.

The concept of speed bumps is that they stop the momentum.

I completely agree that you DO NOT want to stop the momentum and flow in your letter. Be it a text letter, VSL or combo.

  • To me, a speed bump is something that gives me the same feeling I get when I'm watching a movie like "Lord of the Rings Return of the King" (don't hate) and catch a glimpse of the film crew.
