So, I source private label stuff from China. I've used Alibaba successfully, though it's a long process. I recently was searching for a simple electronic product, and I've gotten several emails from distributors offering iPhones, iPads, Samsung phones, flat screen TVs, and other high end items like this. Their pricing is good, but not too good to be true good. Are these folks legit, or is this just another scam.

  @hbennick, I think you have found another scammer on Alibaba. Even Gold suppliers have been known to do it and I can point you to a good site where you can read many reports on scams by Gold Suppliers.
  
  I would always recommend avoiding electronic for China as a means of making money, and most definitely say don't buy those brand names.
  
  You will be scammed if you pay any money.

As a general rule in business and in life: if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Never buy any brand name product from Alibaba or any other product sourcing site.

There are some amazing suppliers on Alibaba and my companies have made hundreds of thousands of dollars from suppliers that we've sourced from there but you've got to protect yourself.

Some quick tips:

NEVER pay via Western Union
NEVER try to buy brand name products
Always ask the supplier to give you a video tour of their factory via Skype

I really like the Skype video tour idea. I've had a very positive experience with Alibaba so far in that I've found a reliable manufacturer for a private label product which is selling, but I had to weed through several who seemed pretty janky.

you can never be sure that the product are really a brand, if they aren't you will end up with high priced copies. So don't press your luck don't buy brand electronics, it is too risky

Scamming emails. I also received them before while contacting suppliers on alibaba. The weird thing is that i never contacted any of these scammers before unless they disguise as another store . I contacted alibaba support asking why my email was leaked to scammers and they also can't give conclusive answer just suggested me to ignore them. I really suspect they disguise as another store. Just ignore them guys.

Well yes electronics is bad on alibaba. but by my experience i can say that their own brand phones are really great to sell locally, for instance check out their latest brand phone like Meizu MX5, they sell for 350$ with DHL shipping can be sold for 450$ in any country. but as most other guys mentioned i do not recommend famous brand electronics too. However thier some clothes accessories are great too. It's just you need to find your own supplier. Before ordering you will need to talk with them on Trademanager if i'm not wrong their messanger and talk with them on details they will also give you discount price. just before ordering need to talk to supplier
