Do any of you Warrior's have tips for creating good product descriptions for goods that are basically the same but with minor variations. I have about 300 products to write and don't want to be penalized for duplicate content.

The problem with Ecommerce is products are hard to rewrite time and time again.

Some people us what their supplier tries, some even have bots which rips it off other ecommerce sites (assuming the have a unique identifier they can use!)

For 300 products I would start with the biggest selling and hand write them with your own spin that fits your site.

Make the copy unique as possible and make it convert will give you a much better chance than simply copying some one else's.

In this case, I'd be tempted to outsource 30 articles to 10 different writers on oDesk or Elance. Or maybe even 10 articles to 30 writers.

Sounds crazy, but I've done this in the past for a site with 500+ products that are all near-on identical, except the colour. It was amazing how different writers approached the descriptions from a different perspective and applied their own spin.

In the end I got a load of unique content that ranks my product pages well, which was the aim!
