ebay is getting to expensive and ebay is for mainly for the buyers anymore.

To many wholesalers, China seller selling there junk and big box retailers are now flooding ebay and to many people selling the same stuff.

Used to be very very easy to sell on amazon and ebay.
forget it now.


This what I see now. Not even close to the money we used to make.
I call ebay Feebay.

Customer service is horrible on ebay and Amazon anymore. Sad!

P.S.

They are a for profit business, who has done enormous amounts of research based on maximum profitability.

That is likely for them the most profitable set of fees they can charge.

The only solution I see would be to either increase your selling price, or leverage your free sale customers off ebay and onto your own website for their next purchase.

Personally I found it was not worthwhile for us to sell on ebay.

    Out of curiosity, what would you recommend? I'm looking into launching an eCommerce business and have been heavily leaning towards a service like shopify, but was planning on using eBay to raise capital (selling things around the house, in storage, and product samples that I'm looking at importing).

      It depends on what your goals are and what you are selling.

      There are products that sell very well on amazon, others that sell well on ebay, and can make you decent profits. You need to work at it though - test different products and different price points to see what works. Ebay is always doing free listings for sellers so take advantage of them and test everything - fixed priced, auction, etc, for your specific products. Try different layouts, different text, different descriptions, and price points, etc. Maintain good feedback on them, handle customer service promptly, etc.

      If you are wanting to make a lot of money on either, this is a must. If your goals are simplier - for me ebay is a way to clear out old inventory and bring some traffic to my own stores - then just make a $1 here or there and consider it cheap marketing.
