A question about Amazon..

Hello everyone,

Just wondering: for many popular items, there are many offers for new items. Some do sell at higher prices, while others do sell lower.

For those selling the same item at a higher price, do they still sell? Why would anyone sell at a higher price, knowing that there are people selling it for cheaper?

Thanks!

I always price compare when shopping online, so I don't really know how successful a seller is when they offer something at a higher price, unless they bundle it with something else to make the offer more appealing.

If it's a fast moving product, and most of the low priced guys are low on stock, you can sometimes catch a few high profit sales. I think most of these people are just putting product out there at a predefined margin, and waiting for the others to sell out.

If it's an higher priced FBA item against a lower priced merchant fulfilled item then the FBA item will sell 90% of the time as long as the price discrepancy isn't outrageous. Amazon Prime members are willing to pay more to get the 2-day shipping and not having to deal with the problems that could potentially be from buying from some guy who is shipping stuff out of his garage. They would rather have the security of knowing the item came from an Amazon warehouse and at least Amazon has physically touched the item.

For popular items (meaning low sales rank on Amazon), it means that the product is moving quickly and therefore merchants with lower priced items will run out of stock quickly. This gives some room to higher price merchants to sell their products as well.

When people shop on Amazon a very large percentage (I think about 80%) will buy from the seller who has the Buy Box. They see "add to cart" when they find the product they want and that is that. Other times a buyer will buy a Prime product which means the seller is an FBA seller. Free and fast shipping is a big thing for the consumer. Amazon customers have a very high confidence level that their order will be fulfilled promptluy and correctly. Just seeing the term "Fulfilled By Amazon" next to an item removes barriers the buyer may have.
