Is anybody familiar with the ebay algorithm?
In particular their "Best Match" algorithm which is what ebay search takes you to by default when typing a keyword term.

I'm familiar with the Amazon Algorithm but I'm still trying to figure out the similarities between ebay algorithm and amazon algorithm, and how ebay determines what "Best Match" is.

    This is a great question.

We really don't know exactly what eBay's algorithm is, but we have some pretty good ideas.

First and foremost, the views:actions ratio. Having this higher does promote your listings. You can even rank well higher than your competition.

Also, rate of sales - especially for multi-quantity listings.

In addition, there is the price. Lower does NOT mean higher ranking.

You have to think and know how eBay makes money. It's on higher sold prices - you can, and should list your items at a fair market value - as determined by the item's history.

Not the average price, but a weighted average.

You lose money when you sell too low, AND it's unnecessary.

      Yes I agree

I wonder if anybody has tried doing some split testing on ebay using different accounts to get to the jist of their algorithm...

I guess its the same thing for any market place... Daily Sales Velocity + On-page conversion Rate + Good reviews = Ranking!

But to get velocity you need lots of inventory which you can afford to accept some loses to get that momentum going... and that requires $$$
