I hand-make and sell goats milk soap. How can I make more sales on my site?

I'm not sure about getting more eyes on your site, but I would definitely start building a presence on Amazon. Let someone else pay for you marketing.

  I'm not saying shut down your site, I'm saying do Amazon as well. People use Amazon to browse products. I would wager more people will search for "Natural soap" on Amazon than will search for it on Google. Charge a dollar more on Amazon if you want, and include a slip in your package that refers them to your website saying that you can save a dollar by buying direct.

  I am going to look into Amazon again. I was asked to start wholesaling to Natural products Distributor but after crunching number was not able to make the margins they were asking and keep my product down to a reasonable price.I don't want to sell my soaps for a huge price, would rather keep them down for the average family.

  Any resources on how to make Amazon work for me. I know that there are a ton of $1,00-$2,000 dollar courses out there but I am a little guy trying to make a living for the family on a shoe string budget. Need so insight and not pay an arm and a leg for it. Any ideas?

It does seem like there are quite a few sellers, but there seems to be a lot of sales also. The first one I found says "23 sold in last 24 hours" with a total of 3074 sold. Maybe that's not much, I'm not an expert in selling soap, it just seemed like a decent market for it.

Well, it sounds great that you have designed a website. But, I would like to know what kind of website it is. I.e. it's an ecommerce website or anything else. If it is ecommerce website, then you need to first think about the services what you want to provide your clients and customers. After that, go for SEO and SMO strategies for ranking up in SERP or you can go with Google Adwords.

It is an ecommerce site, set up to take Paypal and All major credit cards. I used to do some niche sites back in the day before Panda, Penguin and the rest of the
Zoo was let loose.

I have a blog on the site that I try and add new material too. I keep my keywords focused on the certain page that I am writing for.

I don't do meta tags anymore, I don't make blog networks anymore that link back to my site like hubpages and Blogspot like I used to, I think Google sees all that now and you just penalized for it. I don't even know where SEO is anymore. Just trying to be honest, white hat and make it work organically.

Should I be doing more with the SEO and SEM?

Have you thought about Etsy? Shoppers there are already looking for handmade items. There is a big bath and beauty department, and with some work (like optimized listings, great product descriptions), I think you have a good shot at tapping that market. With Etsy, there is also an app that allows you to connect your store to your Facebook page, so fans can shop from Facebook directly.

Could I make one suggestion? You have great product photos, but a couple of them are a little dark and blurry. On Etsy (and anywhere, really), photos that are well-lit and clear are the ones that grab the most attention. I think the pictures in a natural setting are good - definitely goes along with your brand being sourced from nature, homemade, etc. Consider adding one or two to each product that are taken against a pure white background. You could try using a light box, perhaps? Handemadeology has a good tutorial for how to make one here - How-To Make and Use a Light Box to Improve Your Product Photography | Handmadeology.

I agree with the poster above about Etsy. Your products are perfect for Etsy and they're much cheaper than eBay and Amazon. And Etsy postings are in addition to your website - just another sales channel.

Shopify is also a good site to use to create your own online store. It is just currently difficult to start and try and draw some traffic towards the site. I am currently starting a new shopify store to sell a different kind of products than I am use to. The rates on shopify are also good.

To get more sales, you need to generate more traffic to your website. Since you need to invest on manufacturing your soap, I don't think it will be profitable enough if you indulge in PPC unless you inflate your soap price. So, you must go to the place where you already have traffic. You should go to the place where you already have buying customers.

I looked for this product on Amazon and I found similar products with lot of reviews, which means that customers are buying these soaps. Now, you only have to create a seller account and list your products. You may also want to use Amazon fulfillment service to ship your products for added customer trust. Amazon also provides you options to advertise your product listings within Amazon website. Explore these options. While eBay and Etsy are great places to sell, Amazon is where you already have your customers ready with a credit card in hand.

I think this is the way I am going to go. My plans are to quadruple my money for the next 4 years and I have to make this move this direction, wven though I do not like losing customers to Amazon. I will just include a brochure in package with the orders so they know they can come straight to us. I also have our Logo and website on all of our products.

The margins were just to high at this point to have a natural products distributor move our products. As my production goes up and cost of goods go down I will also work on the distribution channel but, Amazon is the way we are going now.

Any decent free or low cost marketing material, you know of for selling on Amazon?

  I can't recommend any learning course for selling on Amazon right now. With regards to reviews, Amazon sends automatic e-mails to buyers for reviews and seller feedback. You can request the same from your end. However, you should not try to bribe the buyer for reviews as its against their ToS.

Are you doing much in the way of SEO? I'm not saying that should be the only thing to focus on, but it's generally free and I know how adwords can drain your bank account. Try some content marketing as well....sharing your blog posts to all the social media, pdf each post and share with all the document sharing sites, guest blog, etc...I could go on all day. Also, do you have an Etsy shop? Because there is an app you can integrate your Etsy shop with Aweber....once you collect emails, you can send people anywhere and get them back onto your own site, not to mention all the repeat customers you will get. I would also put a popup optin on your site to collect emails...offer a coupon code or something to draw them to sign up. I love your site and really hope you can make a full go of it. Facebook ads might be more effective than adwords as well but do some research because you can laser focus in on your demographic....I'd strongly advise to make your own site your home base so you can keep full control. Even if it's more work initially. All the best to you! Oh yea....have you tried doing contests and giveaways? Another way to collect email addresses...soooooo important!

In answer to your original question:
I'm guessing you don't have a lot of time to spend here on the forums, but it wouldn't hurt to add a link to your website in your signature.
You might also consider some of the various ways of advertising your products here, e.g., WSOs, Classified Ads, and Banner Ads.
There are also many Internet forums frequented by people interested in natural products, living off the grid, skin care, and related topics.

My personal primary focus is Conversion Rate Optimization ( CRO ). When you load your main page up... there is nothing screaming click me to buy soap.

( and that is me knowing it is a commerce store.. but seriously had to look for a place to enter the store...I know there is a "shop" link, but it needs to be way more obvious )

your page on first loading has a secure items issue... its not loading all the way through..so I am not getting a full load..I have to click load secure and non secure items. ( I woldimagine your bounce rate would be effected by this )

Each and every one of your slider images needs a Call To Action ( CTA ) "click here to start shopping" or the like. - I would reduce the overall height of this element. probably by half.you are at 700px now. ( there is a good amount of white space there that could be removed )

Drop down your slider to 3 panels - Soap, Lotion, gift baskets 2 less panels will decrease load time.

I would clarify your shipping cost $5.00 flat shipping on all orders - orders over $50.00 ship for free.

I would suggest looking at the icegram plug-in ( the part I would suggest for you would be included in the free portion. ) I would consider using the "Action Bar" and more specifically the top action bar. And that nice little shipping price above... I would have on the top of very page.

All of these things alone I could see increasing conversions by as much as 10%

In terms of traffic.... As suggested I would look at amazon.. ebay.. etsy and I would throw in looking at Google shopping as well <-- of the 4 listed here, this one would be the easiest.. it would only produce traffic, and not another source for you to watch and monitor.

Awesome advice, I am definitely going to work on the items you mentioned. Sound advice.

I know I have a security problem on the front page but I cannot find it. I checked all my images on the page in the footers, side bar and slider and nothing is http: everything is https on the images. Don't know where else to look for the problem? Any ideas?

Everything else you said though makes excellent sense going to get busy on making those changes.

The secret here is a landing page. you are not selling a store.. you are selling soap / lotion / gift baskets. you need to develop a page to land this traffic on that matches the intent they clicked. I would run 3 separate targets. Soap, lotion, and gift baskets. each going to its own landing page.

It is super easy to let loose some of my "knowledge" when I see someone has done the work. I think it is super cool that you #1 took the step to maybe creating a business out of making soap. and #2 after hitting that ok, I built it now what phase.. you are not sitting there thinking success is out of reach.. and start looking for answers and asking questions.

Now looking at your security error. it appears to be your "like Box" that is throwing the flags. I might try disabling that and seeing if your page then loads normally. if that is the case contact the Plugin Author, and see what they can do for you.

You talk about what your products are, why your business produces great products, and the products you sell - you talk about everything except why a customer would want to buy your product, and the benefits it's going to provide in their life.

You need to focus on finding your customers core desire, what, say, at least 85% of the people who wind on your pager looking for in terms of the benefits of your product, and offer that to them.

In this case one of the best lines I ever heard, was that when you're selling a saw you're not selling a quarter inch drill, you're selling quarter-inch holes.

For example, your customers if they're feeding cows your milk, they're looking tell have the best cows in the whole country - so talk about how amazing their animals are going to be because of your milk, and then go on to talk about lead nutrient properties that make your milk The highest quality in the world.

It's not that you have a bad website, or about niche, or that you don't know how to generate traffic-it's just you don't know how to create marketing.

That's great stuff right there, an they are right. A better than GREAT example of this... "California Cows" Our Dairy Cows | Dairy Cow Breeds | Dairy Cow Facts | California Dairy

A huge movement right now in food is "farm to table" why not play that and go with farm to sink / bathtub / shower?

In line with the California cows type page why not lay out a page that describes your process.. from feeding to milking to storing, then getting the added ingredients ( lavender ) to producing the bars - blocks in your case. I believe I heard in one of your videos you "age" your bars / blocks for 4 to 6 weeks? the soap stays more solid and lasts longer correct? how you cut it.. we saw that.

You let loose this type of information.. and you are building VALUE... Holy Goats Batman it takes 6 weeks to make a bar of soap I can buy for $4.95?!?!?! That's straight up American made, done right or not at all, with the best ingredients on earth for you and your family, to wash their hands! Can I get an Amen?

Got accepted in Amazons, Amazon Brand Registry! Still have to submit our products for approval, but I do not see a problem there. Excited about getting our stuff listed on Amazon!

Amazon would be good way to promote your products online. You can even try Ebay and etsy just to check whether there is actual demand for your products or not.

I agree with going on Amazon, if you use the FBA service it will really help lessen the burden for you to fulfil and handle returns. When getting started on Amazon you'll need to start generating reviews right away to build social proof for your listing. So I would suggest getting friends and family to order your product on amazon and leave a review for you. You can set up a discount code for them to order the product. SPECIAL NOTE: If you are doing a discount it needs to be at least $2 or the review could be removed.

i recommend making your website look more alive, it looks extremely sketchy, add some video to it as well, add some videos where you talk about Psoriasis and how your product helps improve that condition, and with that being the case try marketing yourself in the area of natural medicines, look at shopify website layouts for inspiration, no offense but your website to me looks like i wont ever see my money again, and amazon and ebay are a good idea as well.

Selling on Amazon via their FBA model make lots of sense. Afterall - Amazon is an expert at online sales, they have huge buyer traffic and they provide excellent service to their sellers.

I would go thru the sets to set up your account and start by sending in small inventory to them. I would guess that in the long run Amazon sales will dwarf sales from your site.

Be sure to follow all the requirements that Amazon has for selling your type of products on their site.

Somebody has been hard at work I see!!! Like the new layout, and smaller slider size. Might I suggest to rid of some of that top end space the below code:

}

And then at the bottom of your page text on the main page look at introducing a product listing ( maybe introduce a product slider ) you might want to playe with a few pieces of shortcode

[recent_products per_page="4" columns="4"] or get more targeted with
[products ids="1, 2, 3, 4"] <-- insert the desired product ids

Living out here in the country I have to use ATT (tried satelite, no good) and my teen has almost put me over my bandwidth again for this billing period. In a couple days I will be good to go and will make some more of the changes you and others have suggested. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the advice. I just got approved to sell on Amazon!

I first got Approved for "Brand Registry" so I do not have to get UPC codes for my products. I then had to either have all my products tested by an independent lab or sign up with the FDA. I signed up with the FDA as the manufacturer of our products and Amazon approved that. So I need to redo or fix a lot of images, do product descriptions and start posting my products online.

I am not going to do the FBA Model. As a small business right now I do not have the inventory to send a large quantity out all at one time. As I grow it definitely will be in my business plan, freeing up my time to market and manufacture and not shipping and managing customer service side.

Right now I will be full filling orders from here and doing the shipping until I can get inventory up to do the fulfillment.

Question: Should I keep my prices the same as I have on my website or raise them and make sure I pack in fliers and Bcards in the boxes redirecting them back to my site?
