Is High Bounce rate normal for a ecommerce site. No matter what I do to improve my site. My bounce rate stays in the 86 to almost 100 percent in google analytics.

Well, first make sure you are not getting traffic from the spam sites showing up in your analytics - they include semalt and a ton of others. Look for ones that show 100% bounce rate and set up filters in analytics to remove them so you can see your real bounce rate (and try to block them from your site when possible.)

I would also say try to speed up your site - it takes a while to load the home page which many impatient people will just hit their back button when that happens.

Otherwise, examine your analytics and make sure that the search terms they are clicking on to go to your site are seen above the fold on the first page.

Thanks LABEShops, I did see a few site that look suspicious like button-for-website.com in my referrals. I will look into that.

I'm thinking its the way your page is designed, it looks too cluttered and unprofessional - that can be one of the reasons visitors run off quickly. I made a couple changes to the page if you want to check it out http://i.imgur.com/zO4DVrT.jpg

Edit: If I was running an ecommerce site I would check up on sites like Amazon, Target, Walmart, BestBuy to get ideas, after all they must be doing something right to keep them running.

Thanks Leo. Are you suggesting I move the top banner all together? I felt the same way about it being clutered but Some of my findings actually show that people like it that way. For instance on the home page, I hated the fact that I had a categories nav on the side and the categories nav in the header but my users tend to like the category structure on the side because it shows all the categories in our stores in a list.

I use wayfair as my inspiration for my store but I will take a look at the others and see how I can improve the store.

      Thanks

How do you get visitors? What do they land on? Is there a disconnect there?

If I come to a site via a keyword like: what is mortgage insurance, and I land on a page where they're trying to sell me on an FHA mortgage, I'm out of there.

If I Google, red and white Adidas shoes and land on a page about red and white Adidas shoes, I'll stick around. If the page has links to other red and white Adidas shoes, I'll check them out.

If I come via red and white Adidas shoes and end up on tap dance shoes page, I'm out of there.

So, how do you get the visitors, what do they land on?

    • I agree with DABK - I think you need to revisit your search terms. Your keywords need to be very specific to what it is you're offering. For example, I work for an inventory management software. If our homepage SEO keywords were just "ecommerce," or "software," we would get a lot of traffic, but few quality leads. Someone may come to our page expecting an ecommerce news site, or any variety of software. Who is your target buyer? Think about what they would be entering into google, and try and match your keywords to that.

      Good luck!

To reduced the high bounce rate on ecommerce site:

The size of the search bar must be prominent.

Have good solution for the website search functionality.

Make sure that your website has fast loading speed.

Vistors must made aware of the best deals, discount and limited offers.

Have a simple website design and optimum choice as too many choices may distract the visitor.

In case of user query a live chat feature on the website will work fine.

If the visitor lands directly to the product page then (CTA) i.e. call to action button must stand out to grab the visitors' attention, leading them to the next stage.

The website navigation must be smooth and easy.

The design of the website must be good and responsive.

The advertisements on the website must be placed in such a way that it grabs the visitors' attention without being intrusive.

          I go down the list

          1) check?

          2) The search includes autocomplete.

          3) I feel very content with the category and product page speed, the homepage speed could use some work. I will look into that.

          4) Compared to my previous designs I think this is very simple.

          5) Good advice. I will make my Daily Deals button more prominent so the user can see some of the discounts we have.

          6) I'll look into live chat.

          7) check?

          8) Their are a few things I don't like about the navigation that I am working on.

          9) Good Point. I will check on this.

          10) I not using any ads on my site right now but when I start to I will keep that in mind.

Thanks Shirlyn, for all this great advice.

Thanks for that information, these are very good ways to increase traffic. I think I will start with seo and PPC.
