Finally, I have developed my first AliExpress dropshipping store - WorldOfHarry.com and want to share some experience with you.

The site uses unique theme and plugin developed from scratch. There is a possibility to search and import products directly from AliExpress through your WP admin panel automatically.

I have studied the experience of some successful AliExpress dropshippers and decided to take a narrow niche that I think will be easier to promote.

I made a research and selected the most popular products in this niche with the wholesale price not more than $20 and with worldwide free shipping option only. Then I increased prices on my site at about twice the standard cost.

Another feature of this site is that the plugin imports only products that participate in AliExpress affiliate program. So, if I get any order I will be able to purchase necessary item on AliExpress using my affiliate link to get additional 5%-50% commission.

I am going to start promoting the site soon; however some improvements are still needed.

It would be great if you could review my site, give some recommendations, ideas, share your experience or just wish me Good luck!

This dropshipping site uses the solution based on the platform of AliPlugin. However there is no possibility to build dropshipping sites with AliPlugin, only affiliate ones.

If you wnat to earn with AliExpress as affiliate you can buy AliPlugin (there are 3 built-in WP themes with it). As for dropshipping plugin, there is no such plugin now.

Yes, exactly. After I get an order I go to AliExpress (using my affiliate link to get additional profit from affiliate commission) and order the same product entering shipping details of my customer.

Question, it only lets you add 5 Addresses, do you delete them and make new ones after each order?

So you are in essence double dipping on the money you making? Making money via the difference in price your site is selling at vs ali express, and then additionally earning the affiliate revenue?

Awesome Yaros. Just get a feeling that the upper part of the site (top menu, logo, category) looks a bit crowded. just my feeling.
I've been much into wholesale and recently trying to exploit aliexpress for dropshipping. Would be great if you can share your themes and plugin (at a price of course) one day.
    Good luck man.

So what makes your plugin a 'dropshipping' one - is it that you request the supplier to not include aliExpress branding?
Not a bad looking site, perhaps get some better images, they look a bit washed out - people respond immediately to graphics.
    Good job!

Connecting shopping cart, gateways, variations, shipping options, etc. - make my plugin a 'dropshipping' one.

No, I did not make any requests. Here there are two options. If a seller is good and reliable you can contact him personally asking to ship the item to necessary address without mentioning AliExpress. Another way (I am going to use myself) is when I order a product via my own AliExpress account (using my affiliate link). I enter shipping address of my customer, but contact email is mine. So, all emails regarding the purchase and delivery I will get to my personal email. In my turn I have prepared my own branded emails for my clients.

As for images, the plugin takes them and imports automatically, but I can edit them. Thank you for a valuable recommendation.

While putting the finishing touches and preparing my site for the market, I would like to share with you my experince and recommendations regarding choosing a niche for such websites.

How to find a good niche for AliExpress drop shipping store?

    1. Popularity and Trend.

Choosing a niche for your drop shipping website you should focus only on products that are always in demand and have positive or at least stable trend.

Go to https://www.google.ru/trends to get better idea about selected niche. For example, we are going to build a store that will sell 'Harry Potter' products for Harry Potter fans.

We can observe a small decrease since 2004 but the overall picture looks good, there are no dramatic falls and the trend is rather stable. So, Harry Potter niche seems interesting to me for a drop shipping site.

Or let's take 'GoPro accessories' as an example:

Here we see the trend that is increasing year by year starting from 2011. This is a good niche to be taken and tried.

Below you see the niche ('Nokia') that is not worth trying:

    2. Competition.

It is impossible to find any popular niche with a good trend without competition of course. Before launching your drop shipping store it is strongly recommended to search for similar web stores in the Internet. If you find many good sites offering the same products (especially by good prices), probably you should think about another niche and products, which are generally more hard to find. Obviously, there is no point to create another usual "Shoes", "Car parts", "Gardening" stores. It's better to take some narrow niche and try to be creative.

    3. AliExpress Stock.

Before starting building your web store, make sure there are enough categories and products available in the niche. Go to AliExpress.com and enter necessary keywords in search bar. In my case with 'Harry Potter' everything looks fine.

    4. Prices.

Generally, AliExpress offers very competitive (often unbeatable) prices for many products. However, I would always recommend making a small research about the products' prices you are going to sell on your site. Ideally, AliExpress prices should be twice lower the prices of your competitors.

You should pick at least 5-10 products in the selected niche and find best prices for these items on AliExpress. Then go to search.aol.com, enter shopping section and search for the same products in order to compare their prices with prices at AliExpress.

    Let's take an example.

I found such Harry Potter Scarf on AliExpress for $9,05/piece.

Then I went to search.aol.com and found the same item sold by other sellers.

As you can see the prices are much higher. In my opinion, it's a good item that is worth adding to my store.

    to be continued...

Really appreciate this breakdown! As someone just getting started it is VERY helpful! Glad I was on the right track with using the Google Trends to see how things are doing. I'm basically self-teaching myself everything so these informative posts help!

      Thanks!

Actually, you are comparing knock offs on aliexpress to officially licensed products which is why you are finding them so much cheaper. I am an authorized dealer for ELOPE that owns the license for Harry Potter accessories and they have set MAP pricing which you are bypassing by selling the knock offs.

Anyone else thinking of doing this sort of thing I would suggest you look for non-branded, non-licensed items instead of knock offs as sites selling counterfeit and knock off items can be shut down without notice and many manufacturers are now going after aliexpress vendors and those selling their items. Paypal and other payment processors are also shutting down accounts for selling counterfeits - I know someone that was shut down because of "designer" handbags and dresses that were counterfeit.

So if you are looking for a scaleable, sustainable business, I personally would NOT go with this sort of niche.

The reason he is so successful because of the copyrighted and licensed material. I'm surprised the website is still up. I get so angry when people sell knockoffs because people would rather pay a cheaper price for a knockoff than the officially licensed products I sell, but he obviously doesn't care because he is making so much money.

Actually the reason he is so successful is the homework he did. Not because of knockoffs.

If you reverse engineered his work, you'll notice that he started out his brand way before he starts selling. He creates a brand / following before even selling a single product. (Which he didn't mention on this thread )
He did his research on his niche. And he package his brand.

    • Hello,

I want to ask if there are people out there that use dropshippers outside their home country for 3rd party selling?

I am based in Srilanka, but I want to resell US products from aliexpress. Its unable to alccess paypal from my country so I registered with 2checkout (srilankan account).

I bet there are many people outside USA who do this legally without issues, any feedback is welcome.

      Thanks

I am also interested in your dropshipping plugin. Will you be updating this thread when it is available for purchase?

Also.. I was wondering if you are ordering your customer's order via your affiliate link...does the Aliexpress supplier include an invoice of any kind showing the original price (what you paid)?

I ordered a few things from Aliexpress about a week ago. I will be paying attention to this specifically.

    Thank you.

Yes, I will be updating this thread and Iwill let you know if I release this plugin.

I am not sure when I can release a dropshipping version of the plugin. There are a lot of things needed to be optimized before pushing it to the market. It searches and imports products well from AliExpress but there is still much manual work need to be done in order to build such dropshipping store.

I think in nearest feature I will offer a custom dropshipping store service and then will release a dropshipping plugin.

Dropshipping service offers a development of a custom dropshipping store.

With dropshipping plugin you can build a dropshipping store yourself.

But I am not sure when I can launch it. First of all I need be sure myself if these sites have potential.

You can ask them to not include an invoice. However i noticed the value of the item is written on the shipping labels which the customers do see.

You can probably ask to send it as a gift or if the customers complaints tell them it is to avoid import taxes?

What is your take on this?

I order alot from aliexpress and have never had an invoice included. The value is sometimes written on the package but many times it is lower than the value of the product for customs.

You can certainly ask the store when you order something to be shipped not to include the cost or ask them to mark it as a gift. They are usually more than willing to accommodate.

I do think customers are willing to wait the longer shipping times because of the great prices and the free shipping. Just let them know upfront first.

Shipping time is my main concern also and I know there were quite many complaints about AliExpress regarding this issue before. But as far as I know many things have been improved recently at AliExpress including shipping times. I spoke with many dropshippers who work successfully with AliExpress and they told me that they don't have big troubles with shipping, especially when we deal with not expensive products. Most people are ready to wait when thay get a free shipping option. Thtat's why I am going to sell only items that are shipped worldwide for free. Later, I will probably add other shipping options.

im wondering . how do you inform your customers about the shipping time . do you inform them also when you send email confirmation? Maybe on checkout? or only if they click on "Shipping & Delivery" link on top of your page ?

They can see information on a product page by clicking Shipping tab.

How to choose categories and products?

To find best categories for my drop shipping site I use Google Adwords.

With the help of Keyword Planner I usually start checking different niche related keywords targeting all locations and English language.

For example, I take “Harry Potter wands” and see the results.

In spite of the fact that this keyword has high competition its search volume looks rather good.

One by one I select 10 main categories and add them to my site.

Among these 10 categories I also select 3-4 most popular ones to add them to the slider.

After my categories are ready I go to AliExpress.com to find necessary products.

To find the best and most demanded products I filter all products by orders and pay special attention to feedback score.

I get product ID of a desired item and add it to the plugin that automatically finds the product and imports all necessary information (images, description, parameters, variations, etc.) in my site.

Or I can make all the process (search, filter and upload products) work through the plugin.

    to be continued...

    Some SEO aspects:

    1. Before choosing main categories for my site, I use Google Adwords to find good keywords in selected niche. As a result all names of my categories are in line with chosen keywords. (For example: category name “Harry Potter wands” = “Harry Potter wands” keyword that has 40,500 monthly searches according to Google Adwords.

    2. I am using Senuke software for social bookmarking. It helps to index site well and get stable pages on Google.

    3. I write and place a unique article (3000 symbols) on the home page above footer.

    4. I write and place a unique article with necessary keywords (2000 symbols) on each category page. For each article I make unique title placing it in H2 tag. It is important that this title (H2) should be different from the name of the category (H1).

    5. Using special software (usually WebSite Auditor) I do SEO audit for all my pages to find out if:
    - I have any errors in the code;
    - robots.txt created and setup properly;
    - there are any pages with 404 error;
    - a site has any broken links;
    - all meta tags are written correctly;
    - all pages are mobile friendly.

Yes but that is their problem.

This will become your problem if they catch you selling stuff through your website.

Not worth the risk in my opinion - but if you are up for it go for it. Only pointing out the dangers.

The dangers are substantial. All Warriors should be aware of the risks in importing copyright or trademarked products. The risks are:

            • It is illegal.
            • Prosecution leading to fines and in serious cases - imprisonment.
            • Confiscation of the goods.
            • Possibility of being sued into bankruptcy by the legal brand owner.
            • At the very least, Customs will flag your name and address so that all future shipments to your address will be delayed for thorough inspection.
Maybe I should add that Aliexpress is as notorious as its parent Alibaba for scammers operating there.

        Hi Yaros,

        Thanks for your info.
How do you know which sellers offer free worldwide shipping in Aliexpress?
I see that most of them offer free shipping to USA but when you shoose a little country, like Bolivia, it can change to $98 with DHL.

It could be a big problem if someone buys the product from Bolivia.

        Advice please.

I noticed how your Shipping and Delivery page is copied almost word for word from the ones that appear on Yaros' websites. You couldn't at least spin it a bit and change some sentences? Yaros hasn't shared his websites with us for you to copy. And if your going to enter the same niche as him (GOT) at least make your website better than his.

how long does it take for shipping to the US? i feel like it may take 20 business days. and you'll get a lot of complaints

        Thank you!

I have x2 prices, so I get 10$ from an item sold for $20.

The site is based on special plugin that works on AliExpress API. I developed this plugin and the theme from scratch myself.

The delivery time is my main concern also. That's the reason I took not expensive items for my site which have a free shipping option. In this case buyers are usually ready to wait more, but let's see if I come across with any problems regarding shipping items.

      Hey Yaros,

I recently started my site FiveTwo Shop – Best Deals for Shopping Online (still definitely needs some work)

And I would like to implement this review module that you have. Is this up for grabs whether it be a freebie or for sale?

Also how much was it to get each of the trust seals on your site?

No, there are no any signs of AliExpress and prices on packages. However there is an address but in Chinese. Anyway you can always send comment with your order asking about special requirements.

Wow.. your site is very informative.. looks like a store with hundred months running over.. there's no one will know that your store is just a new..

by the way, i can't wait for the release.. and also.. i suggest you.. make a shipping module.. it would be great if this dropshipping plugin can work with WooCommerce, so we can set the our "Extra Profit" from shipping cost..

you may set the flat-rate shipping around $3-$5/order.. or anything else.. i learn it from ebay when i use dropshipping chineese product and sell it on eBay.

please let me know when your plugin is ready.. i'm happy to buy it..

First of all, I am very satisfied with organic traffic coming to my site. It means that all the hard work done for on-site SEO was not pointless and now starts bringing results.

Secondly, I am starting the promotion, finally!

And I decided to begin with social media marketing. Today I would like to share with you my strategy of creating social media presence for my business and tell you how I was preparing my social media pages for WorldofHarry.com website.

      1. I registered social pages for my dropshipping website on 5 main social networks:

      Facebook

      Twitter

      Google+

      Pinterest

      Instagram

      2. I designed avatars and covers for my pages:

      Facebook: Avatar - 180x180, cover 851x315
      Google +: Avatar 250x250, cover 928 * 523
      Twitter: Avatar 250x250, cover 520x260
Pinterest: Avatar 250x250 (the main part of your image should fit into a circle)
      Instagram: Avatar 250x250

      3. I created two descriptions of my webstore:

      a. First short description (max. 160 symbols) that suits Twitter, Google+ and Facebook.
      b. Second description (several sentences) with more attractive details about my business.

First one: Find everything you ever wanted on World of Harry!

Second one: Harry Potter fans! Here you can find all sorts of Harry Potter costumes, clothing, posters, stuff for gadgets, and other things. For adults and kids. For holidays, costume parties, and cosplay.

      4. I completed the creation of social pages:

      • Placed avatars and covers
      • Added descriptions
      • Setup links
      • Confirmed website on Pinterest
      • Created Call to Action button on Facebook:

5.I integrated «Pin It» button to my products' images on the site. To do it, you need to generate a code using widget editor here https://business.pinterest.com/ru/wi..._pin_it_button and place it on your site.

      6. I uploaded created social pages to special software for future auto posting.

For Facebook, Google+ and Twitter I use HootSuite (https://hootsuite.com)
For Instagram I use OnlyPult (https://onlypult.com)

      7. I selected 10 top products from my store and published first 10 posts on Facebook and Google+.

It works great when you combine different product images and use such wording like:

      Which you like best?
      Which one is your favorite?
      Love them?
      Different styles, wanna try?
      Lovely?
      Nice, right?
      Which one do you prefer?

      Example: https://www.facebook.com/14936370509...e=1&permPage=1

On Pinterest I am posting using following way:

      a. Find necessary product on my site
      b. Click button «Pin It»,
      c. Get a new window to put a title, price, hashtags and then publish it.

Example of a published pin: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/345018021431368402/

In Twitter I create a standard post (max. 140 symbols): product title + price + link + image. If I have some more space left I also add hashtags.

      Example: https://twitter.com/world_of_harry/s...40752462704640

In Instagram I create posts with a product title + link to this product (shorten with the help of https://goo.gl/ service) + Price + Free Shipping Worldwide! + hashtags (about 10-20). Hashtags are important, especially for Instagram and Pinterest. I usually use these services to select the best hashtags (Iconosquare - All Instagram online or Websta - the best Instagram web viewer online (Webstagram)).

      Example: https://instagram.com/p/6XUWqWjyaG/

      8. To promote my social pages and give them a boost on the beginning stage, I am using following software:

      For Instagram - SocialHammer
      For Pinterest - FollowLiker
      For Twitter - Twidium

      9. Using automated software mentioned in p. 6, I am going to publish 2 posts a day, using such templates like:

      [attractive text or question]
      Price
      Buy now - [product link]
      Image (in high resolution)

      10. I am also going to start a paid advertising campaign on Facebook:

      Budget: $50

Targeted countries: English-speaking countries + Europe + Asia

There are many other things to consider of course, but I tried to make a long story short. If you have any questions or have some valuable recommendations, please feel free to contact me!
I must say that your marketing strategy is the key to making sales. This is very VITAL for anyone looking to replicate your dropshipping model... As far as I'm concerned, anyone can have a dropshipping website, but that doesn't authomatically means 'sales'. It's not about any theme or plugin, but about how you present (strategies) the website to the targeted audience. Everyone with an ecommerce site should replicate your strategy at first, before blessing any SEO company financially. Just my thoughts.

Brilliant words! Thank you. I have a lot of requests daily asking to sell the plugin. Many people think that it is not just a plugin but a money-making machine. But, it's wrong belief.

It all depends on the niche and products you choose to sell, on how your site is optimized for users, on marketing strategies, customer support and many other things. The plugin is just making your business easier and save your time.

      Congrats on already getting orders.

I am really enjoying following this thread. You have given me a few ideas for my own e-Commerce business.

I would be interested to know which social platform is driving the most traffic to your site?

      Keep us updated.

Thanks for the updates. You have built a very professional e-commerce store. BUT - it is built on a foundation of copyright infringement and trade mark violations. All your images, all your products violate the license holder's rights. It is only a matter of time before you start receiving cease and desist notices. I'm not judging your work, just pointing out that you may have built a very nice - but very short-term business. The very methods you are using to drive traffic -and buyers - will also drive lawyers representing the rights holders to your door. I don't know about you, but I don't want that kind of attention.

I agree with you. From the one hand, may be it is not the best niche to choose and it really breaks some rules. From the other hand, I will not be very dissapointed if someday I get a complaint from Warner Bros and my hosting company will suspend my site. It is just an experiment for me that I am sharing with you. My other dropshipping site built for other ('good') niche is on its way. WorldofHarry is created to try my new platform, test my theme and give trial runs to my marketing strategies. And I must admit that my Harry site has already sailed through many of these tasks with flying colors!

I totally agree. Yaros might be casual, indeed careless, in his approach to this issue, but for the sake of the large number who have been viewing this thread it is extremely important that these warnings be noted.

I suggest to other readers that they should also have a look at my post #41 on Page 1.

The comment by Yaros: "I will not be very dissapointed if someday I get a complaint from Warner Bros", in his reply to your post, is too casual to go without comment. First contact from Warner Bros could be notice of litigation! That could happen if they want to make an example of someone to act as a warning to others. Even the cost of defending a claim can be enough to bankrupt a lot of people, so even if Yaros chooses to ignore warnings I hope others will take not.

Once again, I do understand the risk and I agree that may be it was not the best idea to choose such niche. Furthermore, when I applied for 2CO to connect credit cards payment option to my Harry site I was declined because of copyright issues (however I successfully solved these issues with Payza).

So, I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone building dropshipping websites that sell copyright products. I am doing it at MY OWN RISK.

And I am not going to defend any claims. If I get a notice of litigation I will just close the site. That's it.

On this thread I would like people sharing solutions, strategies and ideas about dropshipping business with Alibaba/AliExpress which can be applied to any products.

Meanwhile, got some more orders. Let's see now how fast the products will be delivered and if I get any complaints and refunds.

Hi there great thread re:dropshipping. Quick question why cant you use products from Aliexpress that are Harry Potter (licenced) related? dont the china suppliers need premission too? So we shouldnt use a Minion soft toy either. Are there only a number of official places to buy merchandise from? Then why is aliexpress not getting those stores closed if they are not aloowed to sell harry potter stuff either. Are they to big for Warner Bros to takedown? I wanna make a coulple of bucks on the internet. even Zazzle, redbubble, Etsy have copyrighted products on their site. Whats going on!!

Hi Yaros, I am trying to learn the Aliexpress Plugin. I have several questions: Aliexpress or Alibaba are companies from China. However, this Aliexpress Plugin is a Dubai company? How does this work --- we buy the plugin and post stuff on our website, when somebody sees it and clicks on the link from our website and finalized a purchase, then we earn the commission. Is that right? However, i see in one of your conversation that you have to make the order for your client at Ali Express... This I do not understand, and am confused. How is commission earned? what is their form of payment for the commission to their affiliate? I would appreciate your response please.

Aliexpress belongs to Alibaba Group Company based in China. Aliplugin does not belong to AliExpress/Alibaba. It is a WordPress plugin that works with AliExpress API and allows creating sites for earning with AliExpress affiliate program. It works as you described.

You are confused because on this thread we discuss a dropshipping business model but not an affiliate one.

I have 2 options earning with AliExpress:

        1. AliExpress affiliate program. I registered with Portals Program and now building affiliate stores with the help of AliPlugin. For each purchase generated from my affiliate sites (it means a user visits my site, redirected to AliExpress via my affiliate link and completes purchase at AliExpress.com) I get from 5% to 50% commission.

        2. AliExpress Dropshipping. I decided to create a dropshipping website to work with AliExpress. When a user buys from my site directly, I order the same item at AliExpress with the shipping details of my customer, keeping the difference between my and seller's price. AliExpress sends the item directly to my customer. So, it is another project that does not deal with AliExpress affiliate program. However, since my dropshipping site is using the platform of AliPlugin, I can order necessary products on AliExpress (to send to my customers) using my affiliate links to get commission as an additional bonus to my dropshipping income.

    Hi Yaros,

i just noticed that, aliexpress doesn't accept payment through PayPal.. how's the way you order your customer item on aliexpress? did you withdraw it first then purchase through credit card or something?

    anyway, you are doing awesome.

Excellent thread and my very first to read, I love the SEO perspective . Only trying to help here, but I own a ticket company and get notices all the time about little pictures that don't have any sort of trademark, like a stadium, that I have to take down. I cannot imagine what they would do here without the rights to sell. I do believe you are allowed to sell such items if the manufacturer had the right to create them, but you cannot use images with your store name like that. You have to just think in terms of morals here and that Warner bros spent a lot of time, money and talent to create Harry Potter so its really best not to capitalize on such without having reseller rights.

Well,TaoBao is very convenient. And I think the supplier in Taobao is stable than Aliexpress.Well the only problem is it is difficult use Taobao as dropshopping for foreigner.Because Taobao seller usually do not shipping to other country. And most of seller may difficult while using English.

Good luck with the 'dropshipping' model but I don't that it is better than an affiliate site that is on 'auto-pilot' and I can go for long walks each day without worry I lost an order because I did not return a message from a potential buyer in a timely manner.

I have a question. When u started your online shop, did you put on the prices 1 by 1 with the price markup or you have a system to do it for you?

My solution supports automated price system where you can apply x2, x3, x4 and x5 price settings.

So what you are saying is that you actually created a website, with payment gateway and all which receives order. That i understand.

Here's my question, which you can choose to not answer if it's too private:

        1. Do you use the pictures from the manufacturers side (aliexpress)?
        2. How about the description etc? Do you import them in bulk or choose it one by one?

      1. I am using the pictures available on AliExpress.
      2. My plugin has a bulk and selective import options. I prefer using a selective one to preview an item first before importing.

Doing social media marketing for My 'Harry' site for the last two weeks, I found out one good strategy. Actually I knew about it before, but now I got added evidence that it works on my own experience.

ADVICE: When you are promoting your dropshipping site using social media marketing, don't forget to post ALL your products on your social pages which connected to your site.

Like here on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/World-Of-Ha...7933/timeline/

If you follow this advice your products can be easily found on Google on top positios.

    Let's take an example!

I am searching on Google for one of my keywords: 'Lord Voldemort Wall Sticker' and find this:

As you can see from this screenshot, AliExpress is not on the first position, as well as my site, but my Pinterest page (with a link to my site) is a winner! Check it here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/345018021431638330/

And I have the same results for many other products from my site.

It should be also noted, that this strategy works best for Facebook and Pinterest, but it does not mean that you should ignore Instagram and G+.

      Hi Yaros

I am currently building a similar drop shipping store in a completely different niche. I have a question regarding Aliexpress and shipping.

Do most suppliers send you an update when the item has been shipped? If they do send you this update, do you notify the end customer?

      Thanks

Nice to hear you are also involved in dropshipping business!

Yes, all suppliers send me updates that I redirect to my clients. These updates include following status:

        - Your order has been paid successfully.
        - Your order has been shippied.

And on my site admin area I have following status options:

    Good news.

Alibaba Group's logistics affiliate Cainiao has signed an agreement with the United States Postal Service (USPS). The two companies agreed to work together to speed delivery of merchandise sold through AliExpress to consumers in the United States.

I am using only PayPal now with the option to use credit cards. Unfortunately I was not able to connect 2CO because of using copyright products. So, I think I am losing now around 30% of sales because the site does not offer direct payment option through credit cards.

Last week got some drop in traffic. This week I am going to launch paid ads on FB, let's see how it will work out.

I am gald that my customers started getting their orders! No refunds so far.

And I am satisfied with social media accounts which give traffic, orders and some great reviews:

I am quick to share with you my stats for September:

    Total income: $733,55
    Supplier costs: $279,32
    Affiliate commission: $13,17
    Net profit: $467,40

Top 3 countries people purchased from:
    United States
    Germany
    United Kindom

Best product of the month (7 items sold) - Hermione Granger Rotating Time Turner Necklace Gold Hourglass - free shipping worldwide

I think not bad for beginning, especially considering the fact that I did not spend anything on paid advertising in September. Most purchases came from organic and social media traffic.

This month I am going to try PPC, craiglist, paid FB ads and crowd marketing and share these startegies with you. And I have decided to develop another webstore for another niche. Starting designing a new theme for it right now.

Are you sure that you want to draw that much attention to yourself, trademark law being what it is? I'm not trying to knock your hustle, but I don't want others to think it's a good idea either. If you were selling no name stuff it wouldn't be an issue, but that's not the case here.

Yes I know, I am doing it on my own risk. Actually, I am going to create soon more webstores for other interesting niches without using trademark products. Here I just wnat to give trial runs to different marketing strategies to use them in future for my other dropshipping websites.

    Hi Yaros,

Thank you for such a fabulous thread and sharing your case! It's real great experience and I wish you good luck in your life experiment. I have some questions regarding your post:

    1. What do you think is better: make own website (alonestanding, e.g. WP, Joomla or whatever it is) or use Shopify. Shopify seems to have huge potential in marketing and sales promotion + quick integration with GoogleShopping.
    2. You mentioned that you use PayPal for payment processing. But what about fraud from the customer's side? PayPal is usually on the buyers side and not on the sellers. How do you manage returns, money back and other issues with existing or possible frauds?

    Thank you!
    Best,
    George

      1. I am a fan of WordPress, becuase its system is very flexible and offers tons of opportunities. However there are many good shopping carts available on the market and Shopify is one of the best. If you are ready to spend a bit more and all its options and features meet your expactations, then I think Shopify is a way to go.

      2. I have not got any frauds and refunds yet, but I am ready for them, it is a part of a business. Hope I will not get plenty of them.

AliExpress has a good protection system with full money back guarantee. So, if my customer is not satisfied with a product and asking for refund I will start dispute with AliExpress seller.

does that even work? disputing for refunds.

how is it your able to get like 2 week shipments? i always thought shipping something from china to us would take at least 1 month which by then customers would file a paypal dispute and you'd have to refund their money.

i remember u told me most of your shipments came in within 2 weeks. how did you do that? did you select certain suppliers from china that u knew were going to ship it really quickly?

When did you order from AliExpress last time?

I remember the time when I waited for 5-6 weeks to get the package in my country (with free shipping option). Now I get packages in 2 weeks on avearge.

Recently Jack Ma (the founder of Alibaba Group) has come to my country to discuss the situation with our national postal service and it was promised that the delivery time will take even less soon.

Two weeks ago Alibaba Group's logistics affiliate Cainiao has signed an agreement with the United States Postal Service (USPS). The two companies agreed to work together to speed delivery of merchandise sold through AliExpress to consumers in the United States.

So, I agree that the delivery time is far from perfect, but it's great that they are working on this.

That's the reason I add only the products now that are not very expensive and have a free shipping option. In this case many of my customers are usually ready to wait a bit more.

    Hi Yaros!

    Very inspiring journey

I've been reading a lot and tried to think of what to do to create a business, so coming across this is gold as a lot of these "how I started from nothing" stories, don't really tell you how they progressed.

So thank you for this, this has really opened up my eyes as I was also reading on wholesale/dropshipping.

My only question, is Dubai where you live?

Don't worry, I'm not stalking! As I believe all online businesses must provide a physical address (an address that you can send mails/goods) and not a virtual address.

So what did you do with that? Did you use an accountants address? Rented a warehouse? Used the supplier's address? or hired a mailing address?

Thanks again for the amazing and on-going adventure

I would like to share with you my FB advertising campaign strategy.

To launch paid ads on FB for my Harry site I use Power Editor instead of using a regular FB tools that has some limitations.

Importnat: Power Editor works only with Google Chrome. To open this tool you need to go to www.facebook.com/ads/manage/powereditor or use a necessary tab on FB ads manager:

As soon as you enter Power Editor, click 'Download to Power Editor' in order to add accounts you need to get access for:

To create a campaign, click the following button:

Then you need to name the campaign, set objective (choose 'Clicks to website') and give titles to your ads group and ads:

Then we need to edit our campaign on a group and ads level where we should set targets, budget and create texts.

For my Harry site I use the type of ads which can include several images and links.

In 'Create Ad tab' I select 'Ad with multiply images in a carousel'.

Then I start creating my ads loading them with titles, descriptions, prices and images.

Important: as my experience shows, people mostly buy from desktop devices, that's why I remove the option to show my ads on mobile gadgets:

    Targeting:

Before creating my ads on FB I went to https://www.google.com/trends/ and found the countries where the 'Harry Potter' keyword is extremely popular.

Then I added all possible keywords associated with Harry Potter niche.

Lastly, I set age range from 18 to 65+:

    Budget:

For this type of ads (like Carousel), 'Daily Budget' option is the best. My daily budget is $5:

My advertising campaign started on the 7th of October and will end on 31st of October:

With such budget and settings mentioned above, I get following results:
    - Clicks - 241 daily on average
    - Cost per click - $0.02!

I have already got some good results from this campaign. For example, today I got an order from Mexico generated by this Facebook adverstising campaign:

Yes, organic traffic is quite good.

          1. Before choosing main categories for my site, I use Google Adwords to find good keywords in selected niche. As a result all names of my categories are in line with chosen keywords. (For example: category name "Harry Potter wands" = "Harry Potter wands" keyword that has 40,500 monthly searches according to Google Adwords.
          5. I create unique titles for all my products and add meta data.
          6. Using special software (usually WebSite Auditor) I do SEO audit for all my pages to find out if:
          - I have any errors in the code; - robots.txt created and setup properly; - there are any pages with 404 error; - a site has any broken links; - all meta tags are written correctly; - all pages are mobile friendly.

People often ask me about how my ordering process works. So I decided to describe this process in a step-by-step way.

    1. First, I get a notification on my email that an order was placed. And I get another notification from my PayPal account that I received payment.

    2. I go to the WP admin area of my site to check Order Details page and find this recent order:

    I see that this order includes 2 items for $9.99 + $11.99.

    3. Using my affiliate links I go to these product pages on AliExpress and place orders stating shipping address of my customer. These affiliate links allow me earning 8% commission on every purchase.

    ITEM #1

    ITEM #2

    4. After placing the order I get notifications from the seller about when he sends the product and its tracking ID. This information I pass to my client through email and apply different status for a particular order on my control panel:

What if the two orders come from two different suppliers? Does it mean the end buyer will receive two parcels at different time?

I am usually trying to take from a big supplier who has a big collection in stock. But if there is no such possibility I have to order from different suppliers.

          Hi Yaros

Well I must say a big thank you. I have set up a store in a different niche and already have two sales!! One to Mexico and one to Australia.

My site is quite labour intensive as I don't have massive tech skills like you. I spent nearly half a day yesterday importing reviews via phpmyadmin!

I have a question regarding shipping from Aliexpress. I placed a sample order for myself on the 4th of October, it has given me a tracking ID with "Special Line-YW". If I go to the supplied link and check the tracking number it comes back as not found!! The item was shipped on the 7th. Have you been able to check on tracking numbers?

I have placed my two customer orders and am still waiting for them to be shipped but hope this tracking issue won't be a headache!

Also do you provide the customers mobile number in the Aliexpress order? I have just added 00-00-00000 for these first two orders.

Finally do you add any notes to the supplier on the Aliexpress order like "please mark as gift"?

          Thanks again

Yes, tracking numbers usually work for me. Contact the seller to find out what is wrong.

I place my own phone number.

            I usually add this note:

Dear seller. I work as a dropshipper. Please, do not mention Aliexpress and your return address and don't place your business card into the package. We look forward to continuing and further developing our cooperation with your store. Thank you!

I am paying $147 montly, but I am using it mostly for other projects. As for my dropshipping site it only helps me to create some social bookmarks. You can use 'bookmarking demon' for this purpose as well.

I have got my first refund recently The customer did not like the quality of a t-shirt he got. He sent me the picture of this t-shirt and I must admit that the quality of this item is really poor.

As a result I sent him a full refund, opened a dispute with AliExpress seller and got a refund the next day!

I suppose, if you are selling not expensive products your AliExpress suppliers usually refund you quickly without having to return the items because they don't want the headache of disputes and receiving returns for relatively low value items. May be I could even give a partial refund to my customer.

My site is good on Google and I think such results became possible because of two main marketing effors:

      1. Extensive on-site SEO.

      - Before choosing main categories for my site, I used Google Adwords to find good keywords in selected niche. As a result all names of my categories are in line with chosen keywords. (For example: category name "Harry Potter wands" = "Harry Potter wands" keyword that has 40,500 monthly searches according to Google Adwords.
      - For each category and home page I added unique keyword-rich articles.
      - I used special software to create social bookmarks to index my site with Google fast.
      - Using WebSite Auditor I did SEO audit for all my pages to find out if I have any errors in the code, if robots.txt is created and setup properly, if there are any pages with 404 error, if there are any broken links, if all meta tags are written correctly and all pages are mobile friendly.
      - I changed product titles to make them look more friendly for Google.

As a result my site was indexed by Google sucessfully and I started getting some organic traffic and sales.

      2. Social media integration.

I created and designed accounts on most popular social networks - Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Instagram and published all my products their. It helped greatly, because these pages appeared in top pages of Google intantly and I got another source of free organic traffic.

Owing to these two strategies many of my products appeared on Google higher than product pages of competitors:

Last week I started testing Craiglist and other similar services and have already got several sales from this source. I think many of you are familiar with Craiglist, but for those who have not tried Craiglist yet, this small and easy to follow guide could be helpful.

    1. Before starting posting ads on Craiglist I recommend using HideMe software. It allows choosing the IP address of the region where you want to post your ads.

    2. Go to Craiglist.org and select a geographical location. In order to choose the best country or region I strongly recommend that you check Google Trends first to find out where your products (look by keywords) are mostly popular and demanded.

    3. Then you should sign up or create a new account.

    4. You can see the status of ads you have already published on your account page. Here you can also select a region for posting your next ads.

    5. Choose the type of your ad on the next page.

    6. Select category.

    7. Enter contact and product information.

    8. Insert image and publish.

Now your ad is ready. After publishing, it will be shown on Craiglist for the next 45 days. You can check your post following the link that will appear on the next page.

Here is how the post looks like:

Don't forget to place a link to your site. It will be not an active link; however people use it to visit your site or product page.

It should be also noted that Craiglist is not the only service suited for posting such ads. I found another 4 good services that can give good traffic and sales. Besides, these services allow posting active links to your webstore.

    Here is a full list:

1 craigslist: frederick jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

    2 http://www.locanto.com

3 Free Classifieds - Hoobly Classifieds

    4 Free classifieds - backpage.com

5 UsedVictoria.com - Classifieds for Jobs, Rentals, Cars, Furniture and Free Stuff

If you are using Craiglist or similar services in your marketing strategy, please share your ideas and experience here!

      1. It is always recommended to place an active phone number on your ecommerce store for trust and better conversions. I am usually doing like this:
      - buy US number from Skype
      - record some voice message
      - setup voice mail.
As a result when a client calls this number he can leave a message that will be instantly delivered to my email. In this case I don't have to answer calls myself, but I can get information from my customers and customers are happy that they have an option to call somewhere.

      2. Yes, you can use other ecommerce platforms to create dropshipping sites. However my plugin works automatically based on AliExpress API. I am not sure if other platforms have such solution. I heard Shopify offers some similar option but I have not checked it.

This could be offtopic, but Yaros mentioned it, so I have checked it:

Shopify has Ali Importer in App Store and it is $29,90/month. Shopify Basic plan is another $29/month or Lite $9/month if you want to sale only on FB, so it's $58.90/month for a webshop and FB shop or $38,90 for FB shop only.
But, on other hand, it looks great and it's promising because of other Shopify features.
Similar plugin is DHgate app for Shopify and it's free and very easy to use and fast, but Aliexpress has way more products, and they are cheaper.

If someone could nail Aliexpress Shopify App for reasonable price, it could be great success due to simplicity and other features of Shopify.

Totally agree with you. I'm also looking for a reliable and easy-to-use parser/cropper for Aliexpress. I'm testing at the moment the Ali Importer in Shopify. It's not perfect, but it has something good. The trial period allows you to import 15 items only. Pros: you can import items by url or item ID, the plugin has price multiplyer to the sourcing price (or you can specify price manually), the plugin does the stock observance (however I don't know and developer also does not explain it, how often it updates information from Aliexpress). Cons: not all items as you want you can import from Ali (and this is the main cons of this plugin), only products in partnership program can be imported. Pricing is the main cons as well: 29usd Shopify +29usd Ali importer per month is for the start of an online store something to think about (especially, if you want to test a niche).

It's quite expensive. And I agree that it is not reasonable when you need to test some niches.

Yaros, what a great thread yaros. I myself also starting a dropshipping from Aliexpress. But I used shopify as m website since I dont have the coding experience with wordpress.

About shopify niche testing purpose, I usually just try the free trial and 30 daysubscription. If I found out my shop didnt sell, I just close it and never get charge by shopify.

I'm selling bicycle accessories, and currently use fb to drive traffic to my site, but still got no luck. my website is Bicycle Gear, could anyone give some feedback about my site. people do come to my site from FB, but they didnt convert.

Yes, I am using FB and quite satisfied with results. Regarding your site I would recommend that you change the domain name. In my opinion .xyz looks not trustworthy. And I think it is not a good idea to place such a large header on your home page. It is better when a user can see products and categories once he enters a website.

    My stats for October:

    TRAFFIC

I got around 40% increase in traffic comparing to September stats.

    INCOME

    Total income: $933,25
    Supplier costs: $389,11
    Affiliate commission: $26,39
Net profit: $570,53 (+22% comparing to September)

Most of my sales were generated with the help of organic search and social media (not paid ads).

Top 3 countries people purchased from:
    - United States
    - India
    - Mexico

In October I made two refunds. One of them is because of a poor quality of the item and another one because of long delivery time.

I am often asked what niche is better to choose for a dropshipping site. In my opinion it is better to find and choose a narrow niche. A broad niche might sound like a good idea and I do understand people who are dreaming about an authority website where you can put all products, but in practice, it can be very tough to get traffic and orders.

    Some reasons to go narrow:

    1. When you make a research going narrow you get a better understanding about what you are going to sell.
    2. It's easier to be a big fish in a small pond and it's the fastest way to grow your business and credibility.
    3. It's easier to rank higher in a web search for particular search terms.
    4. Due to your specialty people will be ready to come to you again and again because you are "the one" in their minds.
    5. It is always easier to focus on one audience and plan your marketing strategies.

To get an idea about what I mean by a narrow niche, take look at this website I have created recently for my friend:

          Dear Yaros,

First of all, thank you for giving other drop-shippers from your time and efforts, the information and tips that you give here, are very appreciated and valuable for others like myself, which are trying to make a living and support our families.
In today's world, global economy and technology give incredible opportunities to everyone.

In my case, after a couple of years of thinking and trying to find a direction, I finally start doing my new company setup process.

I am always very suspicious of Ali Express and Chinese dealers in general. I bought a few times from suppliers in Ali Express and to say the truth, it was much better than expected, ridiculous prices, quality was OK and delivery times shorter than stated by them.

But one thing is buying as a particular and other one is buying and/or using them as a drop ship business...

Anyway I am not currently using Ali Express as an option, thanks to your invaluable posts, I am considering to give a try... For me rather than low prices, the service and reliability is mandatory, I cannot build a drop ship biz, with all the risks and problems, if I don't feel that I can trust my suppliers at least 95% (for me there is no 100%)... rate I find it, very difficult to achieve...

To make it short, I have the same problems, trying to do everything myself, dealing with suppliers worldwide (US, EU and China), setup of eBay and Amazon stores (US + international), building own websites alone, I am not a WM, although I have some skills and I learnt fast, I usually got stuck due to design, plugin and code problems. I pay much attention to details, I am kind of perfectionist and try to make the most professionals websites and give visitors the best customer experience and service, pre and post sale.

I also believe in transparency, my plan is making my websites, fully transparent, with my own profile and future employees profiles, international customer service by phone, mail and chat, etc

Of course all these plans, will be implemented, one by one and only according to sales progress, I strong believe in biz development and automation of all marketing related activities, future website features cost will come from the business revenues only...
Due to a small budget, I am always on the chase after cheap and effective tools (Social, SEO, IT Services, Design, etc) that can save me precious time.

Do you have or use proven tools and/or services (from your experience) with strong accent on value 4 money?

Do you think business model or similar as yours can succeed to make 5K $ on revenues/mo. (lets say in 1 yr time)?

Do you think it is possible, once the whole process is working more or less smooth, to fully automate and duplicate it, meaning finding other niche and working on a pretty much similar basis?

You work with Ali Express, which offer zero to cheap shipping rates, with very low or null cost to you but in my case (like any other drop-shiper) shipping cost, cut off much of our sale revenue? Any tip on how to overcome this huge problem? Fullfilment services? FBA by Amazon? Selling only to customer of certain countries with lower shipping rates?

Excuses to everyone for this long post but I never learnt to make things short

Yaros, I wish you huge success in your biz, you deserve it!

P.D: I reserved flight ticket for Hong Kong on next April, I am attending 2 electronic fairs in HK and the 119th Canton Export Fair in Guangzhou, I will be more than glad, to share my experience with everyone here.

Thank you for the great post, your kind words and sharing your experience!

The advantage of this business model is its scalability and you can repeat success by building new dropshippins sites for other good niches. This is exactly what I am doing now.

Regarding tools, I have already mentioned some of them on this thread and I am still testing a lot. Later I will preapre a full list of tools I would recommend for dropshipping business.

As for shipping options and rates, now I am selling only the products that have a free shipping option and can be delivered worlwide. Now I am working on integration of main postal service APIs into my plugin. If I get success with it, I will be able to offer different shipping methods with all rates that will be obtained by the plugin automatically.

P.S. It would be great if you share your experience after visiting these great events! I am looking forward for it.

Thank you Yaros for all the work you've been putting to make these reports. I really like your pragmatic attitude by focusing on what's important and what have's to be done first letting aside the little details like making your website look "perfect".

You demonstrate that in order to grow you must get things done! and also jump in with the experimenting attitude like trying different advertising strategies while maintaining that what is working.

Acknowledging the copyright risks and keeping going forward (even with the discouraging small reviews that you got) and going with the attitude "I take responsibility if anything happens"

I just finished reading the whole tread up until now and planing to continue in reading the following updates.

My last few words are that your experience SHINES from a far distance and that you are on a whole different level than most of us. All your work until now, this very moment, starting from the first day you entered in marketing is reflected in your HUUUGE fast progress and development within your project.

In my perspective, usually for a beginner it takes around a year to get their first sale, you got yours within a MONTH!

A fact that shows and expert doing an enormous amount of work in a short amount of time.

I humbly respect your work and attitude. Sorry for the long ass kissing reply but this is my honest review upon what I feel and what I learned and saw upon reading the thread.

Recently I have tried a marketing strategy that I had not used before and found it very effective.

This strategy is called Instagram Shoutouts.

If you want your Instagram page to grow, then you need to gain exposure.

The quickest and most efficient way to do this is by collaborating with other your niche related pages, posting one of their pictures in return for them posting one of yours. This is what is called a Shoutout.

But I have a bit different strategy.

I go to Instagram and search for popular pages related to Harry Potter niche. After finding such pages I send a message to the owners asking them about the price for adding my post to their pages. If the prce is fair enough I send the materials I want to publish. As a result I gain exposure, my Instagram page is growing and what is more important, I get sales! (just got another one from these shoutouts)

So, I can definitely recommend this strategy, especially for such fan nichies like Harry Potter.

Below are screenshots of recently published shoutouts.

I spent $25 for these two shoutouts, already got 5 orders.

    Hey Yaros,

First off, thanks for your thread. It is very informative.

How do you get facebook likes and twitter followers? Do you just post your products and people like them? Or do you do something more?

    Thanks,

    Matt

Besides posting all my products on social accounts, I also use some tools.

Facebok - I use my own solution that is similar to WP Fun Machine (I will share this solution later).

Twitter - I use Twidium to promote my account.

Pinterest - I use Follow Liker.

      Instagram - I use Socialhammer.

    Shoutouts Results:

It was my first experience with Instagram shoutouts. I spent $29 on these two posts. They were published on the 11th of November and were live for 48 hours.

I got a good increase of traffic:

    Orders: 7
    Gross revenue: $173,69
    Supplier costs: 89,91
    Net profit: $83,78

    $83,78 - $29 (spent on shoutouts) = $54,78.

Besides, I got many likes and followers on my Instagram account.

I think I could earn more if I have credit cards payment option connected to my site, because there were many users who dropped the checkout page.

You did mention that you had problem with credit card gateway. Since 2co didn't work well for you, why don't you try to other payment gate? There are so many of them now from scribe.com to sagepay.co.uk and many more that will work well for you. Try them out please.

Thanks for the thread. It has been really inspiring. I need to get back to reading lol.

Regarding FB ads, I also found that video ads on FB work better for me than regular text ads. And it should be noted that's sometimes it is not a great idea to send traffic from your FB video ads directly to your webstore, some landing page needed. I am using following strategy:

    1. I write a small article and add it to the blog of my webstore.

Example: 5 Items True Hermione Granger Fans Wouldn

    2. I create a small video and launch advertising campaign for Facebbok.

    Example: https://www.facebook.com/14936370509...7460359878935/

    3. Users whatch the video, visit the blog post and then go to place orders.

    It works!

    I was wondering....

You get paid by Paypal when someone orders right ?
But if you go at ALIE, you cannot use PP ?

How do manage this issue ?

I did some research and saw that some DO take Paypal but never really saw a Paypal logo somewhere on the merchants i have found. So i don't really know if they do take it.

I'm trying to figure out a way to proceed with Paypal all the way.

    Let me know

I order on AliExpress using AliPay system that is connected to my credit card. With AliPay it takes seconds to place an order, but you can also pay by a credit card as usual.

My main strategy now is to take not expensive products and with free shipping option only. In this case customers are more willing to wait longer. The delivery time is 15 - 30 days usually.

I would hire a VA to manage Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest and HAMMER the Harry Potter related hashtags, groups and board, sure that would drive sales

Also, maybe consider giving away the free worldwide shipping (or a discount) for people that submit their email address above the fold on the homepage, this should build you list faster.

Thanks for sharing, site looks awesome and sure you will make a killing!

Hei Yaros, great thread as usual, with all those tools you have to run your site (senuke, twidium, followliker, etc), are you using free or is it paid? My weakness is in social media promotion, having many account on different social media and posting on it is a daunting task for me, since there is only me working on it. are you still on fb ads? do you use fb new feature of audience intersecting.

I've added a US number on the site, and change the header just like you said. It looks more like an profesional ecommerce store at the moment. and if you can, i need more advice about my website. I send around 12 - 15 people last night with my fb ads, but none of them buy the promo ads.

As far as I know the business account has the ability of Rich Pins https://business.pinterest.com/en/rich-pins which has Product Pins with real time pricing and availability. I think this should be good for a webstore like yours.

When using AliExpress, also check Ebay for the same items. I have found exact same items on Ebay for much less than AliExpress.....so do your due diligence.

I've added a US number on the site, and change the header just like you said. It looks more like an profesional ecommerce store at the moment. and if you can, i need more advice about my website. I send around 12 - 15 people last night with my fb ads, but none of them buy the promo ads.
I am using both free and paid tools. As for social media promotion now I am using my own solution, another plugin that I called Social Rabbit. It auto post products on FB, Twitter, Pinterest, finds popular groups in the niche and leaves comments. Besides it can find the most popular posts in the niche and then publish them on my social accounts. So far, I am very happy with this solution.

These reviews are published automatically by the plugin directly form AliExpress.
