Magento: As far as hosting is concerned, Magento hosting is questioned most of times because of its requirements of server resources. The basic level Magento installation can run on any kind of servers but as the requirements expand, many server resources are required. Plus, you will require some good technical knowledge to meet all the resource requirements.

Woocommerce: With WordPress at its backend, Woocommerce hosting will not at all be problematic for you. The system requirements are quite standard, and even if you have innumerable items on your store no strong server will be required.

Magento: It comes with full installation wizard making the setting-up process a cake walk. If your server meets all the necessary criteria, you will experience a hassle-free Magento installation. Plus in the open source application there are plenty of videos and tutorials to assist you with the process.

Woocommerce: Anyone familiar with behind the scenes of WordPress will find woocommerce easier and less sophisticated as compared to Magento. Just like magento tutorials woocommerce has a thorough help section, making it easy for users to understand.

Woocommerce is easy to use if seen from developers end while Magento can pose certain difficulties for developers. As far as user’s end is concerned, Magento wins the battle hands down! and is the best e-commerce platform for end users. It has everything installed at the right place making it easy for everyone to use.

Is Woo commerce suitable for middle or large size online business? Seems that Magento is more scalable, right?

Woo Commerce is suitable for all kinds of websites, but for serious e-commerce focused project with more than 5.000 products I would rather recommend Magento, it's a nuclear center compared to Woo commerce.

If your aim is a working e-commerce website with blog features for reviews I would rather go with Woo Commerce.

Keep in mind it all depends on your project features.

Now that HHVM is out, Woocommerce can definitely go beyond 5000 products. Moreover, the caching facility ensures smooth operations with fewer server requests.

I've had Woocommerce sites with thousands of products. It's easy to use and there's an extension for just about anything you would want to do with an ecommerce site.

Here's some WooCommerce sites that don't have a problem with scalability

Magento is better for big projects, with a lot of developers. It's hard to run it on your own. Can’t say it about woocommerce.

Once you get beyond the basic e-commerce functions, WooCommerce will require additional plugins and/or custom development will become necessary. Magento, on the other hand, is very powerful "out of the box".

Magento strikes an imposing figure in the world of eCommerce. In November 2013 it was estimated that this open source eCommerce web application was used by 11.91% of all online retailers that do business.

Compared to Magento, WooCommerce is a new kid on the block. It’s essentially an open source WordPress plugin-toolkit which turns your WordPress site into a fully functional eCommerce store with everything you need to run an online business.

Magento is more powerful and have better ecommerce features than WooCommerce. Woocommerce does not offer premium functionality unless you install plugins and extensions. Magento built-in functionality.

Woo Commerce is a pain in the butt when you need added functionality (their prices are obnoxious too) and it comes with a host of problems because you're using E-commerce on a platform that wasn't designed from the ground up for E-commerce.

I find some people think many simple things are a pain in the butt, like uploading files, installing Wordpress, turning on a computer .... etc.

Wordpress was designed from the ground up to be flexible via the use of extensions. Since 1/3 of the ecommerce sites are using it, I doubt that most people share your aggravation with it. It's quite simple to use and to extend functionality.

Magento also sells extensions and their licensing for the full version is quite steep. It's also a resource hog that requires at least a dedicated server.

Most people would also require a Magento developer to get up and running.

Here is a fact check on Magento pricing:

      1) Designing, building and configuring a Magento website requires time and advanced PHP development knowledge. If somebody tells you they can do it in a week, it probably won't happen.

      2) These numbers refer to what the industry prices for a Magento website run on average. Take in to consideration that proper web design companies have overhead and full-time intelligent people with salaries who will work on your project.

      3) If the price of a Magento website sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Remember the saying "You get what you pay for".

      4) A college student or just a PHP developer alone can not build a Magento website. Such a project requires multiple people with different technical skills such as SEO, Analytics Expert, Web Design, Graphic Artist, Front and Back End Development.

      5) Offshore developers can certainly create your website for much cheaper. When will the website be completed and will it be completed as promised is a matter of hit or miss.

      6) Come up with a budget and a project scope or RFP before requesting a quote. Submit it to multiple companies and then compare apples-to-apples.

      7) Building a Magento website and thinking that it will magically layout golden eggs is not a norm. As in the real world, selling on the web is very competitive. You need to constantly update and put a tremendous amount of work on the website in order to get a return on your investment.

      8) You need a serious company that will stand behind what they do and become your long-term partner.

      9) Hourly rate for Magento development can range from $95 - $250.

      10) Due to the size and changes that happen in Magento project scope, it is difficult to predict and estimate the exact cost of a Magento website. Most companies will give out an average price estimate and will bill actuals. That's a bit of a gray area for both parties involved. The client wants to know what their Magento website will cost, while the provider can not commit to it, then not deliver and go bankrupt. The solution is to try and have them give you a high and not low end estimate.

Both have their pros and cons. I preferred Magneto but I ended up out-growing it and switching to a more customized solution.

Both are are plugins for establishing an online commercial website. Woocommerce runs on the wordpress platform and I will recommend it because I have used it for some years now. The plugin comes with custom made features that helps you manage the sales at just a click of the button. It has integrated payment methods such as PayPal that makes work easier for you. With the popularity and simplicity of WordPress, woocommerce is the best option. You will definitely like the plugin.
