Could this work? Selling an Article on Amazon without beeing the cheapest

A question regarding "getting into the 'Buy Box' at Amazon".

I found an Article where there are a dozen "new offers", all merchant fullfiled - Plus Amazon.

All Sell at the same price - 6$, but only Amazon sells without shipping fees.
Further, Amazon is stocked up under the roof with this product (You can order 999 of them if you like)

My questions:
Will I show up at the product pages "Buy Box" as an seller, if I choose to go FBA with 6$? Or will only Amazon show up (because they are the cheapest?)

Will always the cheapest (overall) win the buy box?

Am I "auto buy box eligible" when starting out with FBA?

I would still like to know how/if you could sell, when someone else is cheaper (and also FBA).

Supposedly the exact formula Amazon uses to determine the buy box is kept secret. Generally I try to be the lowest FBA seller and ignore merchant fulfilled sellers. Sometime the merchant fulfilled sellers are not visible to Prime buyers if they choose to filter that way.

It is hard to beat Amazon if they are selling your item and have a big inventory. If you price just below them they will probably go lower than you. I would probably price the same as Amazon and see how it goes. I use camelcamelcamel to view price and sales history.

Is it true, that sometimes you get in the buybox without beeing the cheapest FBA seller?
I just wonder how those other sellers make a business without showing up in the buybox. Who would check out other sellers and buy from a more expensive one? Especially when its FBA?

Is the buybox thing some probabilistic thing? When you are the cheapest you will be shown 66% of the time, and the second best 23% and the third 8% etc. ? Or will they sell all items from seller #1 before showing #2?

There may be a formula for "sharing" the buy box for a percentage of the times. Also it is believed that having a good seller record (good feedback rating) may also help. As I mentioned above it is somewhat secretive. I expect that there are times that a non-best price seller gets the box. But there is a reason that when I check my prices I sometimes find that some seller has undercut my price by five cents.

Not everyone just buys from the buy box so others still have a chance, it is just not such a good chance most of the time. People do not always buy at the best price for whatever reason.

You can make sales even without being the buy box. This could occur if you offer lower shipping costs, or prime. It could also happen if you have a better seller rating. I think it depends on what kind of product you sell and the kind of people who buy that product. In my experience people will pay stupidly high markups on higher end / luxury products.

I'm talking about competing with Amazon. As a FBA seller I have no offering that Amazon hasn't. And I believe Amazon thinks they are better shippers, too... ;-)

I have the situation for over 2weeks now. Over 100 views but I owned 0% of the buybox opportunities. I have the same price as Amazon.

From my experience I find I am not competing against Amazon most of the time. If I am I usually price about the same, maybe just below. I do not have to worry too much about it because most of my items are not sold by them I just usually try to be the lowest FBA seller
