Hello, how is everyone doing?
Im looking to dropship on ebay through several sources such as chinabuye, eforchina, and aliexpress. the only problem is that I've researched around 50+ products and i see every single one on ebay at only a $1 markup... or less. so... how am i suppose to compete with that? i have a few ideas but I'm not entirely sure that they will work, such as :

1. listing the item under a completely different name.
2. ordering the item myself and taking much better product photography.
3. selling the same item with my own photography and my own brand. i think this will work and will allow me to add value, but how do i do this if I'm still going to dropship the item? wouldn't it still arrive in the original box ? wouldn't the customer be mad?
4. listing the item as an auction with a higher price, to kind of "pressure" the customer into buying it and not having him think twice when he sees that buyout price is much higher.

what do you guys think? what will work? if you can give me some insight, that would be great. Ive read a couple of good posts on the forum but could still use some more information.

anyways, a lot of people have just told me to go and sell on amazon. i know 1 or 2 people that are doing great with FBA, but i personally don't have enough capital to just buy a boatload of products and send them to fulfillment warehouses...

let me know, thanks a lot warriors !

How much would you have to start with though? You don't really need a boatload to get things rolling on Amazon.

I've listed the same product on Amazon through FBA and eBay and I'll sell 5-7 of that item on Amazon in a week while I'll have 20 "views" on eBay with no sales.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong on eBay, but Amazon is 1,000 time profitable for me all day. Plus the whole logistic thing sucks. I love not having to worry about shipping at all.

Seantrepreneur and DWaters are both right. The idea that you need to buy a boatload to start selling on Amazon is a myth.

I have taught hundreds how to buy small quantities direct from overseas manufacturers and import them the easy way for massive profit margins.

I totally agree with Sean above. Do not buy a boatload of anything to start an FBA business. Start out small and build a business using product sources that give you a good margin. From my experience a lot of products sell for higher prices on Amazon then on ebay. In fact every week I buy items on ebay and resell then on Amazon at a good margin.

I sell mostly in the toy or tools and appliance category. On ebayI only want to buy NEW products which can be tricky because very often people list items as new that are not new. New means brand new and in a box that has not been opened.

I use camelcamelcamel.com to see how often and for how much an item has been selling for. I also look on Amazon to see how much competition there is for an item. If I see an ebay item that might work (meaning provide enough margin) I will add it to my watch list, determine the max I will bid and when possible I wait until there is about 30 seconds left in the auction and try to place the winning bid.

As soon as I get my ebay item I list in on my FBA seller account and send it to Amazon. I do this weekly. It is actually kind of fun. I have a list of items that have worked for me and I repeated look for them on ebay.

Another thing you have to look at is their shipping charges for the items as a lot put low price tag and extremely high shipping more than it cost them which in the Ebay world is call fee avoidance because their are no fees paid to Ebay for the shipping only percentage of item sold price. So they are making profits from shipping fees.
    Example
seller #1 sells item $9.99+$29.99 shipping
seller #2 sells item $29.99+$9.99 shipping
So Ebay fees are higher for Seller #1

Not anymore. Correct me if I'm wrong, but ebay fees would be the same for both sellers. In the past few years ebay started charging fees on the total value amount of the sale -including shipping. They claimed it was an attempt to stop sellers from inflating shipping rates. Who believes that(?).

I have often seen email sellers using shipping fees for profit. It is often ridiculously high and I just avoid that auction/sale completely.

I wish sellers would be honest and stop doing this.

Oh, I realize that shipping inflation happens, I just don't believe ebay's reasoning for taking a percentage of the shipping rate.

I'm a full-time eBay seller and I would never think about doing this. I don't know what it is but eBay buyers are so much more difficult and less online shopping saavy than Amazon and other customers.

I must explain 10x a day that USPS First Class mail is delivery confirmation and not tracking, just because tracking doesn't show updates doesn't mean I didn't ship it. I got a call this past Sunday morning at 6AM because a guy who placed an order Saturday night at 8PM didn't have his package yet.

eBay buyers can be difficult and I would not be wanting to deal with them when I don't have control over the shipping. I notice eBayers do way more returns and open claims than Amazon and other buyers. I think this would be a nightmare.

Add too that eBay, Amazon, Paypal all seem to be doing a purge of drop shippers. I've been asked to show invoices from suppliers by each of them in the last 3 mnths, they want to see if I have 200 items in stock I have recently ordered 200 items.

Gotta be very careful with eBay and Amazon accounts, when they are suspended they are typically suspended for life and stealth is a pain in the butt and not worth it.
