After you receive your samples and decide you are satisfied with them and decide to request your first batch, should you put your logo on the first batch? When do you start putting your logos on the products? After you have sold a few batches or after a few successful products or right from the get go?

    Hi,

Do it from the outset. You can use cheap services like fiverr or if you want a top logo 99designs.

Private label your product on the outset. I believe you are referring to physical products. Most of the suppliers can help you with that.

Be sure to check that the name is not trademarked at uspto.org.. At the same time, see if you can come up with the domain name that matches your private label name for your website if you need one.

You should have done your due diligence to see that there is a market for your product. Therefore, private labeling should be with the first batch, Take the precaution of ordering smaller quantities then ramp up as the demand climbs,

That's a great question and it depends on a few things.

First, how much money do you have to invest in the PL game? The MOQ will be drastically different if you are asking them to print your logo on a product. Where as, if you are just looking to get a few (50ish) to do a larger test, then getting your logo printed on them will be very difficult. I've even called multiple local screen printing companies to see if they would print my logo on products I buy from overseas and they all said no.

Second, if speed is an issue getting your logo designed and printed on your products will take much longer than if you just have them ship out the product themselves. Not in all cases, but in some. This is especially true if what I mentioned above is true and you need a larger MOQ.

My very first product was something I didn't print my logo on because it was already expensive so I couldn't afford the large MOQ they required with printing the logo. So I just bought the products as it and branded them on Amazon. Of course, you run the risk of people counterfeiting them pretty quickly if they are at all successful. In my case, if I continued with that product my next order was going to have the logo printed on.

The final thing to keep in mind is that not all products can even have a logo printed on them. My friend has a product that he sells around 10 a day of and he logo is only on his packaging because it wouldn't be possible to print it directly on the item itself.

    Hope the helps!

Personally I would try to get the manufacturer prepare a small order first and use their default packaging, provided is acceptable and looks fine.

Once you gather more data on how well your product sells you might decide to go all-in with it and talk the manufacturer into using your logo/engraving design.

It worked well for me this way: #100 items just to get started with NO custom packaging and NO logo whatsoever. After those first #100 items get sold I found better price and better quality products from a second manufacturer who could also use my logo and package the products the way I wanted it to be, and so I did for my next #1000 pieces order.

My first manufacturer didn't have in-house packaging so mine was a forced decision that worked out well at the end.

Another reason you could wait for your second order would be that you might have a better idea on how you'd like your product logo and packaging design to be.

If your supplier can do custom packaging for you at no -or little- extra cost then I see no big reasons why you shouldn't do it right from the offset.

Both ways should be ok anyway.

Thank you all for your input! I really appreciate it and will take your advice into consideration and think things over.

I have one more question. If I want to sell a similar item that is listed on amazon, for example onion goggles http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...=onion+goggles, will i deal with copyright, patent, or any legal issues? It seems that there are many versions of onion goggles listed. I have seen the ones on amazon that are also sold by suppliers on Alibaba. Will I have a problem buying onion goggles identical or similar to the ones already listed on Amazon from Alibaba and selling them on Amazon?

      Thanks in advance.

Yes you will have a problem! For a start, it is illegal to import and sell branded or patented goods without a license from the patent holder.

The goods might be confiscated at the border. You could be fined. If the value is high enough you could be imprisoned. The patent or trademark owner could sue you into bankruptcy. Your name and address could be flagged by Customs and all future shipments delayed for thorough inspection.

regarding Labeling: You could order the first batch without label and add a label on your own. This will not be perfect, but stil ok. Just buy some stickers with you logo and stick them on the product (if the product is packaged in a way you could access it.)

You could also ask your manufacturer for special color options that could work out as a trademark. i.e. make one screw orange.
