The best ecommerce platform is amazon, by a very long way.

Vendors who sell from their own site (eg Shopify platform) and amazon most often find that their amazon sales greatly exceed anything else.

    Good luck with your ventures.

This is a very correct statement. Even if you set up your own very good e-commerce site and do a good job of driving traffic to it you will never come close to the amount of quality buyer traffic that Amazon has.

It may still make sense to have your own site but it makes a lot of sense to have a portion of your inventory available on Amazon via their FBA business model.

Agreed only if you have resources to build it and keep alive. Magento 2.0 migration consume from 60 to 80% of initial Magento 1.x development.

    Hey There,

Maybe a Shopify or BigCommerce might me your standards for sure. From here though make sure you have a great presence in other areas such as........

    Amazon
    Pinterest
    Facebook
    Instagram
    Etsy
    Twitter

You want to dedicate time to your website and to your other platforms off site

    Some Other Tips:

Make sure to use your own original product descriptions, and not some generic one everybody and their brother is using too.

Try them all out. It does not hurt.

    Thanks,

    Chris

This is valuable advice. Selling first on marketplaces like Amazon, Ebay etc is a great way to get sales and validate your product before you invest in your own ecommerce store.
