This is a hot item but tons of competition out there. Would you sell it if you could find a price wholesale on a decent brand (not your own)?

Your right there's tons of competition. You'll be competing against powersellers on ebay and amazon that have been doing this for years and have direct access to latest phone cases. I would only attempt if:
- I had exclusive access to newly released phone cases
- I know how to list the product correctly to attract buyers.

  Its not just a competitive market, it is so competitive it actually put one of the major wholesalers/distributors out of business. DrBott who I used to use went belly up in 2014.

that market is mind boggling. i bought a few cases for various phones from ebay over the years. $3-4 SHIPPED TO MY DOOR FROM CHINA. arrived in less than 2 weeks.

I can't ship a small empty box of air to the next state over for that. Let alone make money on the case itself at that price.

That's bottom of the barrel.

Find or create products/services that actually fulfill a need and aren't already over-saturating the market.

No I would not. Profit margins are too thin. It costs 2-3$ to ship the case and you're probably be selling them for 10$ so only 7$ minus the amazon fees. Plus it's unlikely that you'll get on the first pages of amazon since there is so much competition in that niche.
