Well, you guys I been trying to find ways to make passive income. Im gonna be honest, it's hard! lol

So far I decided to get into drop shipping and see how that goes, and decided to use etsy and Printful. I created one shop with selling t-shirts, one shop with just pillows, and one shop just selling planner printables. My shirt pricing and pillows average about $22. Planner printables were just $1.00 to $3.00....I admit, the planner printables were an experiment since apparently they are supposely "popular".

Well...I been on etsy for 2 months with a little over 50 products and only made 2 sales while using etsy's promoted ads, which still did not create great results for my tshirts. My pillows are failing too. lol The printables has gotten 3 sals within 3 days, but that's on 5 bucks I gotten from that.

I did a lot of research on what sells, and what's trending, but I think etsy is just dead.

...but I think I want to quit the etsy thing, my husband think its a waste of time. lol That will be the last time I tell him something until i get the results I want......

But now I want to try something different like, creative market, freepik, and hungryjpeg because i have some experience in photoshop, so im working on a portfolio for them....I also was thinking about udemy for teaching psd projects, but thats so time consuming.

I was also thinking of using shopify for maybe selling digital products, but im scared about the traffic and results with that...

so, im kinda stuck here...i want something that isnt going to waste too much time, but have good results...i want to start something that will help me build the next project...

and im doing this without any money...lol

so...for now im creating a portfolio.

what do you guys think? Be honest, i need as much help as possible.

ps...i used etsy because i didnt have any money right off. ebay and amazon required u to have money!^^

Getting started in this line of business is never easy, and etsy is a tough place to start. You said you did a lot of research on your products (tshirts and pillows) - I don't mean this as a critique, but why did you choose those products? What part of your research sent you the "go" signals with your products?

If you stay with your initial plan, I would invest your efforts into more of a traditional business model (website, SEO, marketing - possibly paid ads if the traffic is good). If you're good with photoshop and images, try building some infographics for guest posting and social marketing. It really does help to have a connection (passion) with your industry and products when the going gets tough. I've done plenty of stores that I don't have that connection with, and while I made them work, it really makes things a lot harder.

if you are a photoshop expert, why don't you start a blog on that?
you know what to write, you like to write on it, and there are lots of opportunities to make money on that niche such as graphic river, creative market and more.
and make tutorial videos to sell as your own product, it takes more time, but it will pay off. no pain no gain lol.

Starting an Etsy store from scratch is very difficult. You won't get much attention if you just create it and leave it there. I have a few friends who sell their goods on Etsy successfully, and their main comment is that you have to be active on the platform, interact with other sellers and really build the community for you to get any traffic.

The term "passive income" is a little misleading, because even though your store can run automatically with the order fulfillment through Printful, you still have to work very actively at getting the customers in the first place.

I wouldn't be disheartened that you don't have any sales, I'd just encourage you to work a little more at marketing your product.

Etsy isn't dead by any means. As far as Tshirts the market is over-saturated, but it matters what you put on the shirt. You have to follow pop culture closely and tap into the popular vernacular/slang/ images and capitalize on it -before it's trademarked. Trademark a few yourself.

As pp said, get involved in Etsy groups and become an influencer.

As far as drop shipping, there is so much more product out 'there' with higher margins and higher marketability than tshirts.
