Why Would Shopify Be Better Than WordPress Website?

Nothing is better with Shopify, 2 different system with pro and cons.I looked and tested Shopify, easy maybe but Word Press is also easy and I dont want pay every month as you say.and 29.99 is just basic.It maybe good for a test but I prefer word press and woo commerce. I use a theme called Flatsome, cost 58us on Envato and you can build amazing stuff with it, its great.There is a lot of videos on You Tube on this theme to teach, its one of the top selling ecom themes. sure other good once and many free also. All the rest I have is all free plugins and they are recommend after you installed the theme so thats what I have and I can do all that Shopify can and more and looks better and its under my control. So I would say go for woo commerce

I've built both... Shopify is easier to customize and they have all payment processing in house. However, they charge a fee if you don't use their internal payment program and go with Paypal instead.

I would recommend wordpress + Woocommerce for eCommerce store for order fulfillment.

Normally I would have recommended WordPress + Woocommerce hands down, but
Amazon has been discontinuing their Web Store, I think this might be the last month,
and they've been pushing Shopify.

Meantime Shopify has been totally integrated with Amazon shipping and FBA
Haven't seen it yet but may be worth a look.

You still need to buy domain and hosting for WP and I would not recommend using WordPress.com if that's what you were thinking, unless you go with their paid version.

With so many extensions and plugins available nowadays for WooCommerce (hands down best e-commerce solution for WordPress), there`s not much you can`t do or setup for a reasonable financial investment and start selling and promoting right away. My choice is always a self-hosted solution because of the flexibility and promotion potential. From my experience, WooCommerce provides a very high ROI quite quickly.

I don't care if Shopify is the best or not. Shopify is a rip off! Every Shopify app seems to cost $80 per month. Next thing you know you are spending $400 per month for one website and you probably won't even make that much with it.


Most of the Woocommerce/Wordpress plugins are a one time fee or just cheaper.

WordPress with woo commerce is good. Its totally free!!!

I could suggest WordPress with WooCommerce for small scale online store whereas Magento is best eCommerce Platform to build a high-end and large inventory online store

Wordpress is great in theory but the one big problem that no one here has mentioned is the CONSTANT UPDATES of themes and plugins.

If you go with wordpress, build it on a child theme. That should take care of the theme updates.

For plugin updates, I'd update cautiously every time. Update it and test your site thoroughly. If you have a relatively new site that isn't making sales frequently, you could go days without realizing that your checkout is broken because of one plugin that is interfering for some reason.

WooCommerce is a good solution but for the reasons mentioned above, I stick with hosted shopping cart solutions myself.

This is really not a cost issue. If you cannot afford $20-$30/month for a business, I'm not sure your business is worth having. Instead, it is a question of ease of use and security.

With WordPress, you will have monthly security updates. Those updates will cause the plugins you use with WordPress to have to be updated (like WooCommerce and many others). All of those are open source plugins developed by people who do not work for WordPress. In many cases, those plugins will also be updated quickly but there could be a time lag where your store is no longer completely functional. Also, although the newly updated plugin may work well with the new version of WordPress, it may suddenly not "play well" with the other plugins on your site which were all developed by completely different freelancers.

We have tried it both ways and do not plan to ever build eCommerce sites with WordPress/WooCommerce again. We were forever chasing our tail updating things - time that could have been much better spent writing content, optimizing pages and getting backlinks. We recommend using a hosted website solution (our current favorite is 3DCart and it is not only less expensive than Shopify, it has tons of free extras that Shopify makes you pay for).

We always recommend WooCommerce for the SMB. However, to dave_hermansen's point, he is correct in that normally the plugin updates (and sometimes theme updates) can really cause a store owner anguish.

Even I agree with dave_hermansen's point. The plugins have to be updated time to time and it will take time and money too, and time is the constraint that cant be controlled. Further more the plugins might not go well with your website; causing several delays or glitches. Though Woocommerce gives long list of customization objects to choose from, still its not clear which one will work better.
Also with the business running well online, you don't want to take chances with not so supportive plugins and updates.

So if you find that Shopify is better anyway, dont hesitate to import WooCommerce to Shopify. But if you realize that WoOCommerce still meets your demands, then keep going with it.

Speaking about Shopify, is a turnkey hosted solution for your online store. It lets you create and run a store almost effortlessly. But as far as customization goes, it is far more limiting.

Shopify is easier for people with no web development experience.
But other dedicated softwares can be more customizable and even cheaper because many shopify addons are quite expensive.

Shopify for e-commerce has been much better in my personal experience than Wordpress. I've tried and tested both Wordpress with Woocommerce (nice host and SSL), and my own Shopfiy website.

Once I switched over to Shopify I never looked back. It's so much smoother, faster, and way more optimized for e-commerce. Shopify specializes in providing the best e-commerce experience. They have a full blown app store, various themes to choose from, and an incredible staff. They're growing at a rapid rate, and offer any solution you need for e-commerce.

It's worth the price (they host the website and it's lightning fast).

Shopify is great because it was made for ECommerce. They have simple payments, its easy to set up, and payments can be integrated automatically. Shopify seems like your best bet if you want to open an eCommerce store. There are also great apps you can use like MailChimp to help you keep track of leads.

WordPress updates are a pain but with a shop you just can't take chances with security. At the same time, running plugin updates with a developer can be a dragged out process and that time in between becomes a window of opportunity for hackers anyway.
