Hey, i've been reading on dropshipping lately and i think it's a branch of IM that might work for me. As far as i understood, you open up an eCommerce store and then list products from aliexpress or other cheap sellers, and sell the stuff for higher price on your website, by shipping it to the costumer directly from aliexpress (I place the order to their address). Correct?

I have 1 question about that:

How do you handle scams/not delivering/refunds?

    Hi,
Drop shipping like every business has its own risks involved in it but it's a great way to start and get you off the ground without the need of high initial investment but it needs a lot of effort and time especially when you are starting out. The scammers are everywhere but we need to do our research before starting to work with any company. What i do is make sure that i call them speak to a person to make sure that there is somebody on the other side not just relying on the emails (not with aliexpress suppliers) and Aliexpress has got a great Seller rating system make sure to check that out. Any seller who is on aliexpress for over 5 years is usually a great one to start with as they have a proven track record with aliexpress. also, make sure to check that the sellers rating is over 96% the more the better . Hope this helps happy drop shipping mate

You understand the concept correctly. You avoid manufacturer scams by first placing a test order, yourself, and examining the goods delivered. If they are listed on AliExpress, it is very unlikely that they are a scam. You just need to make sure the quality of the products is good enough.

I've never had a situation where goods were not delivered. Again, you would know if that was the case with your test order and if that was common with a supplier, they would not be on AliExpress.

You will need to find out what the returns policy is from your supplier.

Well its not a branch of IM, IM is a way to promote your Dropshipping (=E-Commerce) Business, but its not IM itself.

However, you get the concept right.

Scams and non-deliveries can be avoided by using platforms like Aliexpress. Refunds, however, usually are a harder thing. Normally, the Chinese guys where you buy your supplies won't pay for returns. What all of them usually offer is sending out a product for free if something is wrong with it, but you have to pay for shipping (depending on your product this can be quite a bad thing).

There are several reasons for refunds though, maybe you offer a warranty or you have similar laws like here in Germany, where people can give back products within the first 14 days of purchase as long as they are still "sellable" (=new).

If anyone is thinking of using Aliexpress as a basis for their dropshipping business, it would pay them to first read some of the thousands of horror stories to be found on Aliexpress review sites such as these:
    https://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.aliexpress.com
    https://www.influenster.com/reviews/aliexpresscom
    www.resellerratings.com/store/AliExpress
    https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.aliexpress.com
    https://aliexpress.pissedconsumer.com/

There are much safer ways to make money than dealing with such a place. I have taught hundreds how to safely import small or large quantities direct from genuine manufacturers in China and other countries. Very little cash is needed to start.

How to handle the time though?

Let's say a customer orders a product from my website and I have to deliver in 7-10 days time locally and the product actually gets shipped and delivered in a month's time (from aliexpress or wherever).

Obviously if I ask them to deliver in 7 days time then the shipping charges will kill all my profit margin.

Every advantage comes with disadvantages. Your disadvantages if you decide to do dropshipping (without any experience and business-relationship) include horrible prices, no customizability and ridiculous shipping times.

Everyone has to decide himself whether his business can survive this. I agree with Walter Hay about the horror stories.

The business model based on dropshipping from Aliexpress is a recipe for failure.
