Hello folks,

I'm planning to start a new WooCommerce store and i need your help. The thing is that i have never used paypal before to receive funds, so i'm interested which type of papal account i need. Currently i'm using Personal account on paypal, but do i need to open Business Account for that?

Anything else i need to know about paypal, when opening a new online store?

You should definitely open a business account, personal account have a very low limit and a lot of restrictions, if you are planning on going big, they will end up being a problem.

I would suggest using a free solution for your ecommerce store since sales may be hard to come by at first.

I was not overly familiar with woocomerce when I said that, I have looked into it a bit more now.
There are a lot of shopping cart type programs out there that charge you a lot of monthly fees for their use. Looks like Woocommerce is free, and you might have to pay for some plugins but at least there is no monthly charge... never get stuck paying any monthly charges except maybe $10-$20 for hosting for the first few years is my advice....however looks like it does not apply to woocommerce so please just ignore my original comment.

I had a personal account and then a business account.

One thing you need to know is that there are thresholds you will need to pass as you come to them.

I haven't heard any of the other posters who offer advice here tell you about the first time you exceed $1000 in your account.

It may be different for different countries and businesses but there is a level where you will get your account suspended until you provide documentary evidence as to the nature of your business.

The types of information you may need to provide are:

Business Name registration documents showing the business owners.

    Certificates of company registration

Beneficiaries of any company or trust structure you may be trading under.

You may also need to provide evidence that your income is not supporting criminal activity or terrorist activity.

It is no good complaining after you have had your money frozen because the only option is to provide the information requested.

Although it may be quicker you should expect even if you have every document required and requested by Paypal that you may not be able to access your money for at least 7 - 10 days. Maybe less if you are lucky but it is not for you to decide whether they unlock the account or not.

When you first discover this there is an additional problem that although they are not releasing funds to you they are still accepting payments from your customers.

Make sure you have enough cash to cover this time period because if paypal is your only source of funds or payment from your customers it can get ugly fast.

I have a legitimate incorporated company in a Western country and I was lucky they money they held onto was only 10% of my weekly revenue. If it was 100% I'd have been screwed.

    Best regards,

    Ozi
