Suggestion for Sport Supplement Start-Up

Hi Everyone,

First post here so go easy on me

I'm in the process of starting up a sport supplement business. I currently have the website, a formula, various manufacturers working on prices/quantities for me and I'll soon be running a marketing campaign on ad-sense to gauge the interest in this product before I commit to ordering it from the manufacturers.

The model will hopefully ensure I have very little hands-on involvement other than answering day-to-day e-mails, refunds etc (which hopefully I can outsource in time). The idea is that the product is shipped to a drop-shipper, the customer goes on my website and orders, the order is sent to the drop-shipper who package it up and send it off to the customer.

My question is - can anyone recommend a good drop-shipper in the UK who will hold my product and post (world-wide) when orders are received? I have had a look on google but got bombarded with "life-changing drop-shipping opportunities".

I already have the product. I just need someone to hold it and as post it as required. Look forward to hearing your advice.

Thanks,

Jon

You can use Fulfillment by Amazon in the U.K. They will stock, pack and ship for you.

As mentioned above I strongly suggest you have some of your inventory available on Amazon and fulfilled via their Amazon FBA business model. Once the product is in the Amazon warehouse you are pretty much hands off as Amazon does all fulfillment and customer service. Your inventory will be shown on the site with the most buyer traffic in the world. All you need to do is make sure you follow Amazon's regulation and keep your inventory in stock. You may also want to run some ads on Amazon itself which is very easy to set up.

Along with Amazon you may also want to sell from your own ecommerce store or set up a shopify store.

My first thought is Amazon FBA and I assume it is the same process in the UK as it does in the US. Depending upon your inventory you may even save some costs by shipping out your initial orders yourself or by using friends and family if you are using adsense as well.

Good luck this is a huge endeavor for anybody...keep us updated on your results

Thanks for the replies, great community here, I will check out Amazon Fulfilment.

It was mentioned that I need to ensure I keep inventory in stock - is there penalties for not having sufficient stock when orders come in? I ask because I am not sure what the demand for my product will be yet and I don't want to order masses of stock only for no one to order it!

I would handle the orders myself initially but I already work a full time job plus a part-time job over the weekends. There should be sufficient margins in the product to still make a nice profit per unit even after paying order-fulfilment services etc.

Also, are the items that arrive in amazon packaging?

If you are using FBA there is zero problems created if you are out of stock. This is because if you are out of stock your listing is not shown on Amazon and no order can be placed. The only penalty is that you miss out on those orders that would have happened.

If you are handling the orders yourself (merchant fulfilled) you get less exposure on Amazon and specifically to Amazon Prime customers so you will have less sales and you do have to package and ship the items yourself and ship them in a timely manner. Anything that is ordered from an FBA seller is shipped by Amazon and of course comes in Amazon packaging.

Great, thanks that's the really helpful.

The only reason I ask is that I don't want my website to appear to be selling a product already listed on Amazon, even though it's my product customers may not realise this.

Is it easy to integrate into a website? When customers click "Buy Now" on my site will they be redirected to Amazon or do they fill in a form which is forwarded on?
