Tons of forums do not accept posts with links. Do they allow you to have a link in your signature? If so, that's something.

Keep in mind that forum links are almost always nofollow links so they don't help you at all with rankings. Even if the links were followed ones, they have been devalued by Google so never count on a forum link helping you with SEO.

If you ARE able to get a forum to approve a link, it is usually because it is a very helpful link to the matter that is being discussed. You might get some traffic because of that link but not necessarily targeted traffic that is interested in buying anything from you.

Because there are a whole lot of stupid people out there, parroting the things they have heard other people say. Ten years ago forum links worked because they were followed links and there was no Penguin or other algorithmic penalties that targeted easy to get, spammy backlinks. A whole lot of the world is ten years behind.

I've said it a hundred times here and I'll say it again. If you can place the link yourself ANYWHERE, it is almost always a worthless link!

True for SEO but not true for direct traffic on same/similar niche forums.

This doesn't rank pages in 2010.
