What Industries have the most e-commerce sites?

    It doesn't matter how many sites there are that sell something. What matters is what sites are showing up on page one of the SERPs for the products you choose to sell. For many things, the competition is fierce and it will be extremely difficult to nudge one of the top dogs out of place. Other niches are easier to appear on page one of the search results.

    That's your real goal - getting on page one, preferably in the top 5 spots.

    I'll agree with Dave on this one. The number of people in a market is not really relevant, as long as you are able to compete in it.

    If you sell on Amazon for example, the goal is to rank well for your product. You want your product to show up high in their search engine.

    Of course if a lot of people are in a market, it will be harder (not always) to rank well for that niche, BUT at least you can be sure there is a demand for your niche.

    I like to promote on Facebook because I don't really have that problem over there, there is no search engine I need to rank for. I target who I want to see my ads and this is it, they see it. I like to do free + shipping offers to bring a lot of traffic to my website and then upsell them with higher priced items. It works super well.

    But the bottom line is don't worry too much about what industry has the most e-commerce stores.

    Well, that certainly is a different question but still has nothing to do with what type of sites will respond to your service. The number of sites in any particular industry is meaningless as far as who will buy web development services.

    The question you should be asking is, how do I figure out which sites might buy my service? The answer is any site, regardless of the industry, that looks bad and provides a poor user experience (assuming "web development" is developing functional, good looking and well optimized sites).

      The number 1 advice from successful internet people is that one must have a niche and perform well in it. They say if you are selling to everybody, then you aren't selling to anyone. What do you think of this ? My question is what industry is most likely to engage in e-commerce business. I found this image online - pls tell me what do you think of it.

    Probably cell phones :-) Or clothing :-)

    Where are you located, what is your target market and capabilities?
    Do what you're good at because if you can't adequately serve a market you won't get the customers.

    It is not the matters how many sites in a specific niche are in the e-commerce industry. You only need to up in the site or search and you will get a lot of traffic and then sales.
