All depends on your budget- in example Magento is good but it require additional modules and team of developers. You can do pretty much everything in case you have a budget for it. In case you wish a quick store rollout SaaS based platform will be better. It is not truth that SaaS platforms have less features than bespoke platforms- this is a case from 2-3 years back- now game has been changed. Within a range of GBP 50/month you can get decent solution, omnichannel, with advanced WMS and massive sales automation.

I would like to recommend PrestaShop, it's very easy to use and extend its features. But the modules seems a bit expensive.

We highly recommend a hosted shopping cart - especially for new people - so that you don't waste all of your time updating security holes, patching broken plugins and trying to maintain PCI compliance. Yes, it will cost you an extra $15/month or so for a hosted shopping cart solution but if you can't afford to spend $30/month for a website, don't even bother trying to go into business.

Our favorites are Shopify, 3DCart and BigCommerce (in that order). They each have their strengths and weaknesses, so you should take advantage of their free trials and see which one works best for your particular needs.

Shopify is the best platform for the creation of ecommerce store.Shopify is quickly becoming my favorite e-commerce platform. The user interface of the admin panel is simply gorgeous. Although it has its limitations, there aren't many things I wasn't able to accomplish with it.

The biggest downside is the limited ability to change the checkout page. Although you have some control over it, it is minor. So if you're trying to design the checkout page to be exactly how you want, Shopify is probably not for you. In fact, none of the hosted solutions will offer customizable checkout process so you can jump the the Self-Hosted section right away.

One area where Shopify easily beats is competition is with awesome add-on apps. Just like your smartphone, Shopify has many apps that you can download and install on your store, which extend the default or introduce new functionality. Their entire app process is set up much better than the competition and they have the most available apps, too.
    Thanks

Most of Your customers won't even know your site is made from shopify or wordpress or whatever website builder...

Imo, marketing and sales is most important and harder, much harder...cause once you know how to build websites using shopify or wordpress everything it will come smoothly like learning to ride a bike...

Let facts speak for itself- features vs. costs. My personal choice would be Idosell Shop since no extra charge for modules, turnover, warehouse management.

Shopify is the first entrant to this list. As a hosted solution, the ease of store setup that Shopify provides certainly makes it a popular ecommerce platform. And over the years, with constantly increasing expectations, Shopify has evolved right alongside the changing needs of most businesses.

Besides easy setup, quick loading speed and safe payment gateways are two other major reasons why Shopify is a good choice for launching an online store in 2016. Shopify also provides you with hundreds of templates to customize your store's landing page and give it the custom look you desire.

As for the SEO, Shopify enables custom title tags, Meta descriptions, canonical tags to prevent duplicity issue, plus, it also automatically generates an XML sitemap for your online store. So, even those who don't have much technical knowledge can easily make their store Google friendly with Shopify.

To wrap things up, Shopify has a great customer support with an extensive FAQ database and knowledgeable representatives ready to assist store owners and developers 24/7 via chat, email, and phone.

So what are some of the downsides? Shopify's checkout is not that customizable, so here you would have to compromise a bit. Plus, if you are planning to switch to self-hosting in the near future, then Shopify may not be your best choice.

As for pricing, Shopify offers various plans that cost you between $9 and $179 per month, depending on how many features you want in your online store. For instance, $9 plan won't even get you an online storefront, just will allow you to sell things online on Facebook. While the $179 per month plan provides all the bells and whistles that Shopify provides.
    Thanks

If you are familiar with wordpress go with woocommerce. It is free and has a ton of modules you can get to customize your store most anyway you want to. This is what I use myself. If you are a newbie, use shopify. Magento is good, but has a steep learning curve to get started with. Miva Merchant is also good but more expensive. However, if you were to get a miva account and host your store on their servers you would be happy with the server performance. It is the best I have tested so far.
With wordpress and woocommerce, hosting is critical. You need a hosting provider that is wordpress friendly. Verotech uses lightspeed servers and SSD drives and has great tech support. Siteground is also good. Don't use hostgator etc etc... Namecheap has a new wordpress hosting program in Beta. It might be good. I am testing this one on a new site now.
    Hope this helps, good luck...

Staying updated with the evolving e-commerce related technologies is important nowadays. One needs to choose the eCommerce platform that suits to their unique business requirements. These are the platforms which are best for single-vendor eCommerce websites. If you are planning to take your brick & mortar store online, then ecommerce website builders such as Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, etc. are good choices. If you are planning to open a multi vendor ecommerce platform, CS-Cart and YoKart will be good options.

Oh and it's free (zencart I mean), most modules are free or have free options for things like google shopping feeds etc, it's still a bit outdated but so much easier to get the hang of then magento. At least to me it was. Themes are "meh". Most serious retailers are not gonna choose zencart, but for simple stores or simple basic dropshipping websites (like I use it for) it works ok. Soon as I'm familiar with magento tho I will dive right in (gotta take a couple coding bootcamps from udemy first tho, but ill get there). I can't wait till I can use magento decently, I will be applying for web design jobs for developers soon as I feel I can. And I just can't see using shopify unless u really arent interested in customizing your website or being able to make changes to pretty much anything at any time. That's why I chose a fully customizable option so I do whatever I want whenever I want to it. If you don't plan to learn css php java script etc you might want to choose that option though, that might be a plus for you. So I think it depends on the user which is best for them.

Though I like Zencart, I think there is a steep learning curve to using it. For many, nowadays, who are not coders or web designers, I would use some of the other suggestions instead.

Deciding on which eCommerce platform to utilize for your business is tough. There are a plenty of choices available to compare. You can narrow your search by starting with open source platforms first. These platforms present you all the source code you require for customization. If open source is the choice then, PrestaShop and Magento extensions could be your top two contenders to compare.

    What To Consider?

When analyzing two eCommerce platforms, you should compare various things. Use these as guidelines for what to look for Magento Marketplace versus PrestaShop Marketplace.

Shopping Cart Capabilities: What features do you get out-of-the-box? Determine what types of features are essential to your business and which ones are just nice to have.

Hosting: Do you want to manage your infrastructure? If not, you’ll want something you can just sign up and start selling with.

Popularity: Look no further than other sellers to see what platform is best.

Plug-ins: Your business is unique. As you develop, you’ll probably need more functionality that you can locate in available plug-ins for each platform.

Pricing: Depending on the solution, there will be some types of costs. What are you willing to pay for?

Support: If something goes wrong, who can you call? See what type of support each platform provides.
Using these guidelines, we’ll dive into whereby Magento and PrestaShop stack up next to each other

Prestashop wins this one. For a cost, they offer different options of official technical support. There is further a pretty big community of customers that provide support and advice through various forums, blogs, etc. For Magento, however, you can also gain support from the community, which is larger than Prestashop.
