I am just wondering how possible it is to be successful on Shopify without using email marketing services? I really want to get into Shopify and am wondering whether email marketing is worth it.

Thre might be, but that's dumb to not use email marketing and increase your sales if used correctly.

I'd be surprised if there are any. 1/3 of e-commerce sales growth is from generating repeat purchases. (Other methods are new customer acquistion and average order value growth)

The vast majority of our eCommerce websites do not use email marketing at all and we have many that do in excess of $50,000 profit per year - some in excess of $100,000 annual profit.

Not every website is built around repeat customers. Tons of websites are built around product lines that people buy once and don't buy again for many years. If you had a website that sold nothing but refrigerators, what would be the sense in email marketing to those customers?

When you have a one-off website, your growth comes from new customer acquisition - not hammering the same people who just bought from you with offers for something they just bought. Running re-targeting campaigns, showing ads to people who have visited your website and not purchased yet is what we do for one time only purchase sites.

If you can figure out a way to collect their email address without them making a purchase (like offering a coupon code for their email address), sure, you can try re-marketing to them via email. Just don't expect as good a return on that effort as you'd get with a site that DOES sell repeat purchase products.

You should at least setup transactional email marketing. You are going to send that order confirmation email anyway, why not use it for marketing. Check out this guide: https://www.shopify.com/guides/email...ctional-emails

Email can be a powerful marketing channel for e-commerce if you leverage it properly. If you think about it, a customer's inbox is basically a distraction-free zone you've been invited into, giving you more opportunity to capture attention with highly-targeted offers than in any other digital medium out there

Shopify is just a glorified WordPress site with automated plugins. Save the $30 monthly cost and get Woo Commerce. Fiverr contractors will install Woo commerce for you for about $10. Shopify is only successful if you can drive traffic to it. You are just as success by saving that $30 and using it to run FB ads or Bing ads at $5 per day.

If you are not using email marketing then you need to generate a good amount of traffic to your store. The options are

    - SEO
    - Advertisement (FB Ads are good now a days they are very targeted.)

Out of every 100 people 1 or 2 people will click to see your offer. Out of every 100 people who see your offer 1 or 2 people will buy something from your page. So you can see already that to get 1 to 2 sales. You will need between 5K to 10K traffic to your offers.

This is the reason email marketing works. In email marketing up front you do not promote any offer directly. You just give some value to someone in the same niche so that the person is ready to share his email. Then you build a autoresponder series that will market to these people.

The best part about email is once a person becomes your subscriber. Unless they unsubscribe you can send these people as many offers as possible. Means if you have 100 people on your list. You can send all these 100 people offers everytime you have something to sell.

And people buy from people they trust. Thats what email marketing helps with.
