New warrior here. The name's Josh. This is going to be a rather long post and I hope you guys read 'till the end. I've just begun my journey into eCom. That is, drop-shipping of course through aliexpress.. How exciting, right? Well like many of you, I'm having many struggles. The biggest one is getting my facebook ads to convert and I'm probably not alone but this post isn't about that.

As I'm sure most of us can agree, the biggest and best method for true, long-term success with eCom is stocking, fulfilling, and private labeling (optional) your own inventory and truly creating a brand. That said, I think I found an amazing product on Ali, that isn't yet saturated, that if I execute the above things properly, can make me a lot of money.

That said, many would say to test a product before doing something large scale like that, correct? It'd be silly to order a whole bunch of inventory before you have proof that the product will work. The store I just launched is a "general" store, which most would say allows for the testing of random products, like this, as you aren't locked down by a niche. However, if I have real plans to private label this product, I don't think it would be wise to sell it on my store, for a few reasons. Allow me to elaborate. First and foremost, by selling it on my store, the product is now entering the market and there may be someone else, who sees and really likes it, and executes what my big plans were before I ever got the chance. Secondly, even if no one does "steal" the product, by having it on a random general store like mine, I'd now be tarnishing the reputation that is to come, of my future private label brand, right? Also, it would be downright foolish for me to try and jump into stocking inventory from the get go, when I can't even break even drop shipping. I'm super inexperienced and I feel as though if I rush into that, there's a high chance of failing, and with a lot more on the line this time, it's too risky.

So all of that said, would you guys agree that the best plan of action is to open up a new store under my new private label brand? But rather than stocking inventory from the get go, start with drop shipping, and if it's a hit, move to phase 2?

I know this was a long post, but there's so much going on in my mind and I could really use the help. Cheers guys!

Depending on what the product is, I would lean toward having a separate website for it.

At the beginning, I would either dropship it or order a small quantity. This will allow you to validate the idea before you put a lot of money into it. I would check with the manufacturer to see what the lead time would be if they are drop shipping for you.

If you plan to create a brand around this product, I would suggest ordering a sample to review quality. I ordered a product from Alibaba one time that I was going to brand. It was junk. I ended up throwing it away.

    Good luck!

My initial thought is that if you can buy it from Ali, so can anyone. Therefore, you are not protecting the product by private labeling it. Someone else can sell the same product without white labeling it or slap their own private label on it, too. Once it gets hot, anyone will be able to sell the same exact thing. regardless of your label.
