I'm completely new to establishing an e-commerce business and I 'm very confused about the whole process of sales tax. I heard you need a tax exemption number, is this true? If so, does anyone know how to acquire one in the state of Maryland? anything would be very very helpful.

  • Unless you are a non-profit organization, you would not need an exempt certificate, you would need a sales & use tax certificate. You can read about them and probably need to click on the Sales & Use Tax link at the bottom of the page - Sales and Use Tax Exemption Certificates
