I'm not sure what you mean. You say you have had a hard time contacting them. Are you not able to find phone numbers?

Or, are you saying that you have had a hard time convincing them to give you a dealer account? If so, are you actually picking up the phone and talking to someone there or are you taking the easy way out and just emailing them? Emails are much easier to blow off than phone calls are.

Dave, if we talked about success rate for both approaches, what percentage would you give to written contact versus verbal contact?

I'd say you are 5-10 times more likely to either get the supplier or get information from them about who might be able to dropship for you by calling them.

Only the very easiest suppliers will approve you by email. Keep in mind that if they are that easy, you've likely got a whole lot of competition.

Getting a supplier is a sales process. You have to convince them that you know what you are doing, will not harm their brand and will actually send them business. These people have heard it hundreds of times before and 95% of the people who promise they will send them business are never heard from again. Frankly, they view these emails as well as these calls as a waste of time. Show them that you know what you are doing and will not be wasting their time. They prefer you to email them because it's much faster to hit delete than to take a phone call.

If they won't dropship and you have established some sort of professional rapport over the phone, they'll usually help you out by letting you know who the big buyers or distributors are for their products and will often give you their contact information. Those places are even more likely to dropship. By the way, if they give you a distributor, that distributor usually cares a whole bunch of brands.

None of that will happen from an email. I know, I know, I've heard it thousands of times. Phone calls are scary. So is knocking on doors selling vacuum cleaners. Selling someone a product you know better than anything out there - yourself - has got to be easier than that!
