There are a few things you need to know regarding how you want your store to function and what features you will need in the store based upon what you plan to sell.

If, for example, you only intend to sell a few limited products, you won't need all the bells and whistles of a full-blown comprehensive platform and it makes no sense to spend a lot of money for features you won't be using.

Here are some of the considerations you should have resolved prior to choosing a platform:

Depends on type of store and functions you will need, drop shipping, built in shopping cart or your selling your own products, so as you can see, there is many different types, I build all types, and only use WordPress or custom coded themes with built in shopping cart and payment system built in, also with customer order tacking system,.

So you must be good at WordPress to do what I just said, if your not, then go with Shopify, but they charge $29.00 per month plus apps,

Now if you use WordPress, you own the site, if you use Shopify, you don't, once you stop paying, the site is gone.

The main difference between Shopify, 3DCart and BigCOmmerce vs. these wild out of left field carts is that the main 3 are hosted, meaning you do not have to pay for hosting on another server. Hosted shopping carts are guaranteed PCI compliant and you never have to worry about security updates for the shopping cart or plugins breaking after those updates.

None of that can be said for non-hosted shopping carts.

Shopify will give you everything you need. I dont know much about Wix except for what they display on TV. But Shopify i can vouch for - for sure.

@poojajoshi. With a few research comparing builabazaar to shopify, I would recommend using shopify as it the top leading and is popular in various countries. If you want to sell in India alone, you can go for buildabazaar

Although there are many good ecommerce platforms, but my personal favorite are Opencart, Prestashop and Drupal Commerce. The first two are very light and Drupal one is of course the most secured one.

Shopify. Take the trial, don't think about it anymore. Selling in less than 8 hours.

BuildaBazaar is the best online store site builder. You have to try this for your online store.

I have used Prestashop and Woocommerce and Shopify. Shopify is the best for a fast start. Don't need other platforms.

Whatever platform you opt for you should always at least keep in mind the question "Who owns my 'site'?" If you are using an online platform that you essentially don't control, where everything is hosted on a third-party site/solution, then sure, that makes things a lot easier in some ways. On the other hand, you don't "own" that - if you build it up and then that provider goes under, changes its terms, policies etc. then you could lose everything.

I am just saying that in the long-term you should always work towards having your business hosted on a platform YOU fully control, and that is basically your OWN domain and your OWN website. I appreciate that is a lot more work, and maybe outside your scope at the moment, but is the only way to plan a long-term business online so keep it in mind.
