Alternatives to e-Junkie

Hi...I've been with e-Junkie for more than 10 years. When I started, there wasn't much out there. I sell ebooks and courses. What's a good shopping cart system? I don't like the bare bones format of e-Junkie, although I do like the $5 a month! Thanks.

Sendowl seems to be the next king to reign. I used ejunkie for the longest time too because of the price and easy set up along with access to a ton of affiliates looking for products to sell. But Sendowl is something I just got started with. Seems pretty good. You can make half decent sales pages. Not sure about everything yet as I am just getting started but it is pretty affordable to at $15 a month for 30 products. Don't care about having affiliates and just want the basics? You can get a mini plan for $9 for 10 products. Check it out.

Thanks. I will take a look at them. I'm so frustrated with e-Junkie and their insistence that I use their ugly buttons.

We recommend hosted shopping carts because you never have to deal with security updates, plugins that break (especially after updates) and PCI compliance issues. Shopify is probably the most popular, followed by BigCommerce and 3DCart.

If you insist on hosting things yourself to save a few bucks per month, I'd consider WooCommerce. Tons of customizations can be made with it.

Thanks. Shopify support just told me that they can't do this, unless I move everything to them. Maybe I misunderstood, but they admitted I would take a big SEO hit. I have a busy website and I want to be able to sell people my products - is there a way to do this with Shopify that even their support person missed?

Yeah, my bad. Shopify is the worst shopping cart you could ever moving an existing, ranking website over to. They do not allow customization of the URL file structure so ALL of your URLs would change. Sure, you could 301 them but a loss of traffic is inevitable, at least for a little while.

BigCommerce or 3DCart would be better alternatives, since they allow you to make the URLs whatever you want them to be.

Thanks. I'll check them out. I was also wondering about WooCommerce.

WooCommerce would definitely work and be less expensive. That said, you'll have to provide your own hosting, deal with what seems like non-stop security updates and also deal with all of the problems plugins have after those updates.

How did the subject become 'shopify support'? How does it become 'more than shopify support'?

Well, with 40k-60k uniques a month, I am on a dedicated server. I used to self host, back in the day, but that eventually became silly when the cloud became much more popular.

In the context I meant to use the term, that is still "self-hosting". In other words, the software you are using is not hosted on the servers that the platform, itself, owns. You are still responsible for implementing platform upgrades, etc. In a hosted eCommerce software environment, you never have to worry about those updates; they happen seamlessly in the background.

Thanks. That helps. I probably read too quickly too.
        Managing upgrades can be complex.

    Hi RainCoast,

Shopify really seems to be making strides these days. I'm talking to more folks who are opening digital storefronts over there.

I just got a shop approved there. But would they be any good for small service busineses? That's who most of my readers are.
