Selling Non-Affiliate Turnkey Websites?
I've had this idea for a while now but I can't seem to make it work in my head. Would like some help troubleshooting.
I have dabbled in a little web design for friends, family, and a couple of local businesses. I used to do it every once in a while for a little extra money but I hate doing custom work and the back and forth with people. When not under the pressure of bringing someone's "vision to life", I do like designing websites. I do it on my own all the time as a hobby--I just keep them hidden behind a maintenance page.
I am wondering if it would possible to create turnkey business websites for different industries (law, real estate, ecommerce, salons, small businesses) and sell them as is with a clear agreement that once it is purchased, it is up to them to populate the information/photos, etc. The site would be live and they could click around and see how it looked and if they liked it, they could buy it and fill it in with their information. Doing all the work up front would alleviate all the pressure from me and give the person exactly what they see. As a courtesy, I would include a step-by-step checklist before going live. I think the setup is the hardest part for people to get and once its there, they can go pretty far on their own. I taught my non tech savvy mom how to use and maintain Wordpress so I know it is possible. I worry about how smooth of a transaction it would be if the person already had a domain name/hosting, or if they needed to buy it. Would they still hassle me down the road to work on it or make changes? I don't want to be (nor am I qualified to be) a full fledged design firm or webmaster. I just like the creating part, lol.
I currently work from home full time running an Etsy shop. I do a lot of assembly and have developed some pretty serious tennis elbow so I have to be thinking of something else to do. It would be nice to do something digital so I am not constantly running back and forth to the post office. The scenario I mentioned is I think the only thing I could realistically produce and sell digitally....and the scenario that fits my ultra-introverted personality.
I didn't know where else to turn. I know there's a lot of brain power here so I thought it couldn't hurt to ask! Any ideas?
