Is it a good idea to create a Shopify store for a single dropshipped item it should I populate it with filter items so it looks better?

I'd stick with the one item and stay focused on that niche/sub-niche.

...unless you have other products that work with the original product. Upsell.

I'm thinking about it. But in that case why use Shopify at all when I could just sell the item on Amazon/eBay? I'm just trying to figure out how to best spend my time on this and figured that the branding opportunities that a Shopify/domain would offer.

There are an unlimited number of potential future selves. Are you going to become the one you want to be? or the one that just... is?

      True.

One thing I think a lot of sellers don't understand (sellers in general) is, some of the big sellers on ebay/amazon drive their own traffic to their ebay/amazon ads. That's how they become the BIG sellers on a platform (ebay, amazon, etc...). So really they have their own traffic source plus the ebay/amazon traffic.

Try ebay/amazon first, it's a lot faster setup than building a site. I'd still make it a point to drive your own traffic to the sales page regardless what you end up using.

If you want to build trust among your audience, it may be considerable; having a shop with one item seems a little slim.

Having variety also gives the perception of choice. Maybe provide different colors or variations of the product if possible.

Having a store with multiple items makes it look more legit than just a single item.

If you want to sell a particular item, you can send your traffic to the page of the item in your store.

It only takes one good idea to hit it big. Having a single product to your store with a multi-purpose templates and layouts seems to be a waste of money and time.
I suggest, you create a single-product E-commerce theme, in this case, it is more convenient and lighter alternative for you.

For a dropshipping site, I would prefer to have multiple items because you cannot sell this, you can sell that.

I would just niche out your site, super targeted and have a selection of 10 -15 items.

But that's just my opinion. I always feel when I land of a store that offers a small selection of quality products over just a couple, or hundreds, I am more likely to buy.

Im targeting a very specific niche however there are hundreds if not thousands of products for this niche. I know I wont add most of the products listed but I do want to have a good selection.

I currently have a shopify store with a single product that does well. I actually tried adding additional products and the conversion rate dropped by 1/2. I think part of our problem was we didn't add enough products. If your site is designed right for a specific single product (assuming it's a cool/unique product) it can do well.

You should use SquareSpace, if you only want to list a single item. It's much better and cheaper for single item listing.

You can just do with a single product, I've seen it work. If you intend to add more items, make it for the purpose of selling them and not just for fillers.

I do intend to have more products. I just need to figure out how to get them shipped or where to source such products in the US.

If you want to design a Shopify Store then its good to add multiple Product (at least 10-20 Product ) on your Ecommerce Store not a single Product. A dropshipping store is simple to set up and easy to manage when you have the right platform and it doesn't require a large amount of up-front investment as well. Shopify is Best Choice for you.

I wouldn't suggest that. Build a flat product catalog at least 5 products and then add up their variants.
Categorize or catalog them correctly making it easy to navigate and find, by the way, Shopify is a great choice to build your brand.

I think there should be a balance. One single item with a few related items. That way it will be very easy to do SEO. I am personally against adding large number of items with many categories.

I'd diversify those income streams to boost profits, with a few items. No worries on creating certain appearances. Just help folks with more options.

Have one product is fine. But you don't need Shopify in that case. Use a website like ClickFunnels. It's great for just advertising one product and quick and easy to set up payment.

Shopify is good for a store with multiple products and handy cause you can use the many plugins available to Up sell, Cross-sell, bundle, build an email list and a bunch more.

But like I said if you're just testing the waters one product is fine. In fact, its recommend since it's it can take a bit of time to get a Shoplift store set up. It's not as easy as they make it look.

    Hope this helps
